Peter van Zante is a former US Army soldier who gained hydrokinetic powers as a result of an incident during his days of service. After a failed marriage, van Zante went down a dark path that soon landed him in prison. While trying to turn his life around, van Zante was recruited by Project Earth into the Force of Nature, which later became the Oregon team of the 50-State Initiative.
He is the father of Nathan van Zante who, after being dishonorably released from missionary service for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints, took a similar path as his father did.
History[]
Origin[]
Peter van Zante was a soldier in the Persian Gulf War when he was wounded by an explosion of enemy rocket shells. Airlifted to a hospital ship in the midst of a storm, van Zante was placed under an experimental device designed to keep him alive until the ship stopped rocking enough so surgeons could operate on him. The ship was struck by lightning, however, & this created a power surge in the experimental device irradiating him. He recovered rapidly without surgery, & was discharged from the army. Soon after, he learned that he could mentally influence water.
For years he practiced with his power in secret, not quite certain what to do with it, achieving mastery over greater & greater quantities of water at a time.
Failed Marriage[]
After being discharged from the military, Peter married Casey Murphy & had a couple of kids. Unfortunately, Peter's marriage with Casey was a difficult one. He was verbally abusive towards his wife, constantly criticizing her & crushing her self-esteem in the process. Later, Casey learned of her husband's infidelity when she found lewd material on the computer. This resulted in Casey divorcing Peter & taking her children with her to a group home.
Time in Prison[]
Peter's addiction soon got him in trouble with the law when he was arrested for sexually assaulting a minor, & he was sentenced to twelve months in prison. While he was in prison, Peter received counseling in order to recover from his addiction.
Joining the Force of Nature[]
After being released from prison, Peter tried to find a way to turn his life around. He was soon approached by a group of radical environmentalists known as Project Earth. Taking the new code name Aqueduct to reflect mankind's lack of ecological consciousness, van Zante joined the Force of Nature, the superhuman terrorist extension of Project Earth. The Force of Nature engaged in several ecological terrorist attacks.
During his time with the Force of Nature, Peter was saddened to learn that his son Nathan was dishonorably released from missionary service for the Church of Jesus Christ of Latter-day Saints due to immaturity & Internet addiction, & he feared that his son would eventually travel down a similar path as him.

Personality[]
Powers & Abilities[]
Powers[]
Hydrokinesis: Aqueduct possesses the ability to psionically manipulate any liquids within about 500 feet of himself. The maximum volume of water he can manipulate at the same time is unknown, although it appears to be many gallons. By psionically increasing the available energy in ordinary water molecules' force of attraction, he can assemble large volumes of water by subliminally stacking the molecules, & making the volume take on certain shapes. He has been observed to direct firehose-like jets of water with sufficient force to stun a man at 25 feet.
Aqueduct can use his psionic powers for about one half hour before mental fatigue impairs his control over the phenomena. He apparently has more difficulty controlling small quantities of liquids than large ones. He has not yet been observed to be able to stop the six pints of blood in a human body from circulating, for example. He also cannot change the temperature of a volume of liquid, & thus convert it to ice or steam.
