Biography[]
Early Life and History[]
Born in Turin, Piedmont, Italy during his father's years as a United States Military attaché to the United States Embassy in Italy, Arthur spent much of his youth in Europe before immigrating to the United States in 1974. As a member of the prestigious Reddington Military Family, Arthur was raised with expectation to serve with distinction in the United States Army, an important family tradition as old as America itself.
Quickly it was apparent that Arthur was child prodigy, though in truth he was tapping into his Archetype Manipulation Powers in order to access the Powers of an Archetype: Child Genius. By age 14 he would graduate college early after early acceptance and became the youngest ever enrolled student in the University of Oxford in the United Kingdom.
Enlisting in the Marine Corps[]
At the age of seventeen Arthur, contrary to familial expectations, enlisted in the United States Marine Corps. His defiance in the face of family tradition in joining the Marine Corps would inspire his younger siblings to follow similar decisions, with only his Youngest Siblings Laurence and Stephanie joining the Armed Forces. Sent to the Marine Corps Base Quantico, Arthur was quickly identified as both Officer Candidate material and a potential recruit for the Marine Forces Special Operations Command.
Quickly appointed to the Marine Force Recon Division after completing his Marine School of Infantry in a record-setting time, Arthur would form friendships with fellow candidates Carl Lucas, Billy Russo, and Frank Castle. The four men would form a tightknit bond that would see them through training together.
Specialized Training[]
After completing his Marine Force Recon training - with highest marks - Arthur was selected to participate in the USMC Combatant Diver Course, Survival, Evasion, Resistance, and Escape, United States Army Airborne School, Ranger School, Special Operations Training Group, United States Army Reconnaissance and Surveillance Leaders Course, Pathfinder Course, Mountain Leaders (Summer/Winter), United States Marine Corps Scout Sniper, and Joint Terminal Attack Controller training courses. Through the SOTG he completed the Applied Explosives Course, Dynamic Entry Course, Urban Reconnaissance & Surveillance, Urban Sniper Course, Assault Climbers Course, Dynamic Assault Course, Security Element Training Course, Boat Raid Course, Helicopter Rope Suspension Techniques Masters Course, Deep Infiltration and Extraction Team, tactical Recovery of Aircraft and/or Personnel Course, and Non-Lethal Weapons Courses. Because of his Powers allowing him to rapidly complete each training program in record setting time, S.H.I.E.L.D scouted him as a potential agent and candidate of the Avengers Initiative.
Because of the sheer absurdity of his rate of completion of the specialized courses he'd undertaken, Reddington would be assigned to the secret Special Operations task force, codenamed War Dogs, and was given the codename designation; Paladin.
First Deployments and his First Medal of Honor[]
A couple years after the completion of his training, he would eventually be deployed to support the NATO forces in the Bosnian War and later the Kosovo War, the years of combat against foreign enemies took their toll on Arthur mentally and physically, however, and by the time of 9/11 Arthur was planning to desert.
During a deployment in Bosnia, he encountered the Wolverine, and together they fought off an attack by Ten Ring's backed local militia. During the battle, Arthur suffered extensive burns and bullet wounds and was carried to the nearest United states army base. His actions with Wolverine had indirectly led to several Nato battles going in the allied forces favor due to the reinforcements being engaged by Wolverine and Arthur. As a result, the President of the Untied States awarded him a Naval Medal of Honor, and promoted him to Second Lieutenant.
First Encounter with The Chaste and Stick[]
In the months leading up to the conclusion of the Bosnian War, Arthur was deployed on a secret courier mission, supposedly to deliver critical intel to a deep cover unit embedded in the local resistance.
During the mission, Arthur was ambushed by the Hand, specifically the group belonging to Sowande. Despite killing most of his attackers, Arthur was subdued and captured. The truth of the mission was that Arthur's squad had been targeting Sowande's operations, and as the squad leader, Sowande needed to make an example of Reddington. However, Arthur's decimation of Sowande's operations had attracted the attentions of the Chaste, who naturally were curious about the young soldier.
