Plot[]

After a major defeat at the hands of the Scarlet Witch, a weakened and injured Chthon was in his realm of K'lay.

Months later, identifying Billy Kaplan as the reeincarnation of the Demiurge, his mystical signature attracted Chthon, who wished to take his power for himself and then conquer the Multiverse. So he used his powers to absorb all the energy and magic in his realm, recovering most of his power. Thus, using the few vestiges of America Chavez's power that he still had left and combining it with his Chaos Magic, he managed to open a portal and return to the earthly plane with some effort. Due to being an Elder God, his presence was soon felt by all magic users, both mages and humans, and some gods, such as Thor, Loki and Khonshu, also felt it. Chthon was first confronted by Doctor Strange and Wong, the Sorcerer Supreme, but Chthon was quickly able to overcome the power of both, only being restrained when the Scarlet Witch, Agatha Harkness, and Rio Vidal arrived and combined their magic. However, Chthon managed to kill the Scarlet Witch by obliterating her with an energy blast.

At the new Avengers headquarters located in the corpse of the Celestial Tiamut, they all gathered, soon also being contacted by Thor and Angela, where they began to discuss their course of action. Agatha Harkness share herr experiences against him in the past, and as he is a very powerful divine force, Thor and Angela confirm that they have faced an Elder God before and know that even them together would not be enough to stop Chthon, at most they could slow him down and perhaps cause minimal damage.

Maximoff awoke in the center of the Witches' Road, and soon began to plot her way back to Earth, so she invoked the Trials. As it happened, she had only one challenge to face: she would have to pass through the Witches' Underworld, a dimension located within the Witches' Road and is the equivalent of Hell for practitioners of magic. Once in the Witches' Underworld, Maximoff was directly confronted by several visions and enemies from her past, and unexpectedly, about to leave the dimension, Maximoff had her path blocked by her long-lost evil variant, Lore, who revealed that since her death at the hands of the Scarlet Witch, she had managed to return to life, but had found a new calling by becoming ruler of the Witches' Underworld, and despite having the upper hand due to being in her domain, she was outmatched by Maximoff, who fulfilled her challenge and was therefore allowed to return to Earth.

In New York, Chthon begins possessing various humans, heroes and villains, and uses necromancy to bring fallen heroes and villains back to life as obedient zombies, some of which involve Wanda Maximoff's twin brother Pietro and her mother Iryna, the Scarlet Witch before her. He is confronted by the Fantastic Four and the Young Avengers, but that is exactly what he wanted, and he turns his attention to Billy, focusing on him and ignoring the others.

Although Billy's magic is powerful, his lack of experience and knowledge allows Chthon to soon be able to overcome him. He begins to drain Billy's power but is surprised by the Midnight Sons, and is knocked out by Moon Knight and injured by Clea. They take Billy to the Avengers headquarters, where he reveals to those present Chthon's motivations, where he wishes to absorb Billy's magic, that is, the magic of the Demiurge, to become the most powerful god in the world and reign supreme over all dimensions, timelines and universes. During this, Chthon launches an attack on Krakoa, killing several mutants, and is confronted by the Quiet Council, composed of the most powerful mutants alive, Omega and Alpha level mutants, with effort, he is overcome by the combined efforts of Jean Grey and Storm, after the battle, the X-Men reunite and contact the Avengers, where they are invited to join them at the Avengers headquarters.

Thor and Loki say they need to act quickly, as even with the protective spells of Scarlet Witch, Agatha Harkness, Strange enhanced by Thor and Angela's godly powers, Chthon will find them eventually, and the barrier will not be able to keep him out for more than a few hours.

Chthon arrived at the scene, but was unable to cross the barrier. Thor, Loki, and Angela went to meet him at the barrier and said they would stop him. Chthon mocked them, saying that they were nothing more than "spoiled children playing God," and that they would not have the strength to stop him. Chthon then teleported his army and ordered them to attack the barrier, and Chthon managed to get through with difficulty. He is confronted by all the heroes and cornered in a structure similar to the one used in the trial of Agatha Harkness, and there, he is attacked by energy blasts from Binary, Angela, Rio Vidal, Scarlet Witch and Agatha Harkness, which at first cause him pain and begin to damage Chthon's vessel, but he uses his dark magic to absorb Binary's powers, but he had no intention of taking them for himself, he absorbed only enough to free himself and counterattack, causing Binary to revert to the form of Captain Marvel, he was confronted by Thor, receiving a blast of pure divine power, but Chthon was able to do the same and counterattack, seriously injuring Thor. Thus, the barrier collapses and Chthon's army attacks all the heroes present.

Finally, Chthon was directly confronted by Billy, finally having awakened the magical potential of the Demiurge's magic, he was able to fight on equal terms with Chthon. Billy was exhausted and nearly losing, but upon seeing his boyfriend Hulkling and his friends and knowing the danger Chthon posed, he gained strength and used his magic to drain Chthon's powers, draining enough to render him virtually powerless. Thus, Billy transforms into the Demiurge, and he frees the heroes and villains from Chthon's control, including the fallen heroes and villains reanimated with necromancy, which caused them to fall dead, except for Quicksilver who was resurrected.

Billy used his magic to cast a binding spell, destroying his host and putting him back into his deep slumber. After this, Billy restores the heroes' powers to their original state, and the heroes reunite and combine their powers to undo the destruction caused by Chthon across the world.

In a post-credit scene, the High Evolutionary is seen in a sort of trance, while reading the TVA Handbook, so the trance was induced by the spell contained in the book, he was having visions of She Who Remains, he opens his eyes confident, as he will be the next big threat after Chthon.
