The Children of the Jackal, also known as the Children of the Duat, the Legion of the Unliving, or simply known as the Jackals, was a secret cult of worshippers that serve Anubis. Founded by Araamses, he became the first avatar of Anubis and helped him in his plan to usurp the throne and enslave his great-great grandfather Amon Ra. The plan was a failure when Nephrus, who was Amon Ra's avatar, had managed to put a stop to this. With Araamses dead and Anubis imprisoned in the ushabti, the cult was disbanded.
Centuries later, the cult was reorganized by one of Araamses' descendants Ahmad Azis during the 1990s, in which he uncovered the location of the Scepter of Osiris that was kept safely under the protection of Jaime Vasquez, who was the avatar of Khet, inside the Palace of Death and Rebirth. After killing the Khet's avatar, Ahmad seized this chance to reclaim the scepter and used it to open the way to the Duat. While searching for Araamses in the Duat, he came across the soul of Randall Spector and was told by Anubis' voice that he is the one.
Using Osiris' scepter to reopen a gateway back to the palace, Ahmad had brought Randall back to the physical plane, alive and well. For years, Ahmad had been training Randall to become a great fighter and champion of Anubis.
