David Brian Banner was the abusive father of Bruce Banner. Fearful that Bruce might have inherited a "monster gene", he frequently beat his son up, leaving him emotionally and physically abused. After his wife, Rebecca, tried to escape from him with Bruce, a drunk Banner beat her up to death in a fit of rage while their son watched in horror. Soon after Rebecca's death, Banner was then sentenced to death and executed. However, despite his death, David's soul continued to haunt him, as his abusive behavior played a part in Bruce's eventual transformation into the Hulk.
