- "You are not the Black Sky. You are Elektra Natchios. And you've never been anyone's slave."
"I appreciate the sentiment, Matthew, but I know who I am. The Hand did not reduce me to this. This is who I've always been." - ―Matt Murdock and Elektra
Elektra Natchios is an assassin who was trained under Stick to join the Chaste. Before learning the truth of her heritage while growing up, she had fallen in love with Matthew Murdock during a mission for Stick to bring him back into the Chaste. She returned to his life after years of absence, putting her beliefs and methods at conflict with his own. Later, she was revealed to potentially be the Black Sky, the one who is supposed to lead the Hand. However, Elektra chose to help Murdock defeat the malevolent organization, and was killed in the final confrontation with Nobu Yoshioka. The Hand then retrieved Elektra's corpse from the grave and placed it in a stone chamber to be exposed to the Resurrection Elixir.
After her resurrection, Elektra was manipulated by one of the Hand's founding leaders Cecilia Cardinale, who took her under her wing, re-training her to truly become the Black Sky. After becoming the Hand's personal weapon, Elektra killed Cardinale after regaining her memories and took position as the leader of the Hand. In hopes to achieve more of the substance to increase her immortality, her efforts came to a stop where she fought against the Defenders which reawakened her past self through her interactions with Daredevil. She was buried under the Midland Circle building alongside Daredevil.
While thought to have been dead, it turns out that Elektra survived as well, who saved Matt's life once again. She left New York to go on her own path, thus abandoning her loyalty and leadership towards the Hand, seeing that they used her in gaining nothing. Elektra remained unaware of the Hand's continued activities when survivors from Midland Circle were able to get their hands on the ancient bones of the dragons of Yaochi. After crossing with her past and redeeming herself for her past actions, Elektra found herself as a new person and traveled the world until she was recruited into S.H.I.E.L.D. under the leadership of Jeffrey Solomon Mace.
When S.H.I.E.L.D. was declared an enemy of the state once again, resulting the death of Jeffrey Mace and the attempted assassination of Glenn Talbot, Elektra went into hiding and survived the Snap that was orchestrated by Thanos, who succeeded in his goal to wipe 50% of life in the universe. For the last five years, she lived a quiet life, but in secret, she had recently returned to S.H.I.E.L.D. and spent months going undercover in order to track down the Mandarin, the founding leader of the Ten Rings. After hearing of the Mandarin's death, Elektra continued to work undercover with the agency she felt a part of when she was spying for the Golden Daggers led by Xialing Xu.
At some point following the Secret Invasion, Elektra accepted an offer from Valentina Allegra de Fontaine and Thaddeus Elliot Ross in joining the Thunderbolts. While she still remained in S.H.I.E.L.D., Elektra chose to represent herself for the future team that would be ready to face any coming threats.
