Ellen Brandt was an agent who worked for the United States Department of Homeland Security, but was secretly a spy working for A.I.M. under the leadership of Harmon Taylor. However, early on during A.I.M. War, Ellen defected and sought to reveal everything to Homeland Security, but A.I.M. already learned her deception and sought to have her eliminated. In hopes to avoid being targeted, Ellen flew over to Kathmandu in Nepal in order to avoid being targeted and made an attempt to contact Dallas Riordan in revealing what she knows, but her efforts failed when her rival Evelyn Necker had tracked her down and shot her while fleeing near Kamar-Taj and then left for dead until her life was saved by Morgan Erskine, who used her mystical power to heal her.
After being healed and learning that Harmon Taylor had been dealt with by Tony Stark, Ellen joined the Masters of the Mystic Arts during her stay in Kamar-Taj and was known as the "Staff-Wielder", but would continue working for Homeland Security as part of her side job. With the use of her Sling Ring, she never got late for work and considered this as good part of her life. Having survived the genocidal Snap, Ellen would be among an army of sorcerers within the Mystic Arts to aid the Avengers in fighting against an alternate version of Thanos and attended Tony Stark's funeral to honor the hero for his sacrifice in saving the universe. She even took part in serving as a teacher for the Strange Academy that was founded by Doctor Strange.
