The Great Lakes Avengers are a group of misfit Midwest superpowered individuals brought together by a newspaper ad & a dream. After the Avengers Civil War, the Great Lakes Avengers were enrolled in the 50-State Initiative, & they changed their name to the Great Lakes Initiative, the superhero team of Wisconsin.

Origin[]
After accidentally discovering his power to never die, Craig Hollis donned the superhero persona of Mr. Immortal & began fighting crime. He soon realized that his heroic endeavors would be easier with a team & took out an ad calling for men & women of action. Meeting at a local YMCA, Mr. Immortal was joined by Big Bertha, Doorman, Flatman, Squirrel Girl, & Leather Boy. Together they formed the "Great Lakes Avengers" as a sister team to the Avengers.

Donning the persona of Big Bertha, Ashley Crawford joined Mr. Immortal's Great Lakes Avengers.

However, when the team discovered that Leather Boy didn't have any powers, they asked him to leave. Since then, Lorrene has been trying to get his revenge on the Great Lakes Avengers, even going as far as murdering Squirrel Girl's first partner Monkey Joe.
