Mértis was one of the early witches, the first Green Witch, and was chosen by Death to became to the Reaper of Earth, an avatar of Death responsible for Earth, becoming one of the Emissaries of Death, eventually, she changed her name to Rio Vidal. Centuries later, she met the violet witch Agatha Harkness and became lovers, they had twins, Natalia Harkness-Vidal and Nicholas Scratch, but her son died because of a illness which she refused to help Harkness to heal, and eventually they broke up. Eventually, she encountered the Salem's Seven, who are the daughters of the witches of the Salemites killed by Harkness, leading her to ally with the coven and hunt her.
In late 2026, Vidal sensed that Billy Maximoff, the son of the Scarlet Witch, had reeincarnated in a new body as his magical powers started to ressurfe, he "stolled a second life" and inteted to do the same for his twin brother Tommy. Lady Death personally order Vidal to find him and take his soul. While looking for him, Vidal find out Harkness was in Westview trapped in the Scarlet Witch's mind control on Agnes' personality. She helped Harkness to reclaim control over her mind, expecting to ask her help in finding Maximoff, however, she was unexpectadlly possessed by Lady Death, who wanted to take Harkness' soul too, however, Lady Death was dissuated by Harkness and she teleported away, also stopping her possession on Vidal.
Vidal joined Agatha Harkness's newly formed coven and used their portal to enter Witches' Road, after an unexpected trial, Vidal then revealed herself to the group, where she was accepted by everyone. She pretended to be on the side of the group facing Salem's Seven, and confirmed that Harkness was just using the witches to get to the end and recover the magic stolen by the Scarlet Witch. During Lilia Calderu's Trial, Vidal is revealed as Death due to Calderu's divination, Vidal then explains that she is actually the Reaper of Earth and an subordinate of Death.
Right before her Trial starts, Vidal is confronted by Lady Death herself, having finally lost all of her patience; Lady Death is determined to restore the balance by either taking Calderu or taking one of the coven members in her place. Lady Death is angried and calls the coven "agents of chaos", inspiring Harkness to formally name the coven as the Coven of Chaos. Despite the difficulty, Vidal and the coven manage to dissuade Lady Death and convince her that they can find someone for her to take, prompting Lady Death to back down and depose Vidal as the Reaper of Earth.
When her Trial finally begins, Vidal has 30 minutes to heal from her "scar" and overcome her grudge and thirst for revenge against Agatha Harkness, which leads to an intense battle between Vidal and the Coven of Chaos, where she reveals the order that Lady Death gave to her, to claim Wiccan's soul. However, Vidal finally sees the truth about Agatha Harkness and become able to overcome her grudge and heal herself, passing her Trial, she also gaves up on taking Wiccan's soul.
At the end of the Witches' Road, she says that at first she wanted revenge against Harkness, and wanted to reach the end to find the Scarlet Witch and steal her magic to then take revenge on Harkness, but upon seeing that most of the Harkness's evil was due to the influence of the Dark Magic practiced by her twisting her grief over their son, she gave up, then allied herself with Harkness and helped defeat Vertigo, where Vidal kills Diarus and offers her to Lady Death to take in Calderu's place, to which Lady Death accepts and restores Vidal as the Reaper of Earth.
Personality[]
Rio Vidal demonstrates a confident and friendly attitude, similar to Agatha, she demonstrates an acidic and sarcastic humor, and demonstrates a need for organization and stability, an unconscious and primal instinct, alluding to her status as the Green Witch.
After abandoning her disguise, Vidal reveals her true personality. Vidal is driven by a grudge and thirst for revenge against Agatha Harkness due to her having left her after their son's death, which led her to ally with Salem's Seven in search of revenge, she, however, was not blinded by revenge, and disagreed with their extreme and brutal methods, and eventually this led her to turn against them. Vidal also shows herself capable of forgiveness, because upon noticing that much of Harkness's evil was due to the influence of Dark Magic, which distorted her desire to be strong into a megalomaniacal need for power and respect, while also distorted her grief over their son, however, she kept her plans of revenge.
Upon discovering herself as the Green Witch, Vidal became much more confident, furthermore, upon unlocking the all-powerful potential of Earth Magic, Vidal's need for organization and stability becomes more evident, showing greater concern for order, and this ends up being one of the things that leads Vidal to turn against Salem's Seven. Vidal believes that as the Green Witch, an agent of the order, she should not interfere with the "natural course of things", as shown when she refuses to cure her son's illness even though she has the power to do so, due to believing that his death from the disease was the will of the natural order, ultimately leading Harkness to turn against her. Vidal seems to justify all of her actions with this belief, thus appearing genuinely upset and confused when Harkness rightfully grew to hate her, failing to realize her mistakes.
Powers[]
- Mage Physiology: Vidal is a witch, a race of human-like beings that are born with the ability to harness Magic.
- Witchcraft: As a witch, Vidal have access to a specific kind of magic exclusive to witches known as Witchcraft, the ability to tap into this universe's infinite store of ambient magical energy and manipulate these to a variety of effects. A skill derived from three major sources: personal powers of the mind/soul/body, powers gained by tapping the universe's ambient magical energy and employing it for specific effects and finally, powers gained through the tapping of extra-dimensional energy by invoking entities or objects of power existing in mystical dimensions tangential to her own. The latter means of power is usually gained by the recitation of incantations.
- Earth Magic: As a green witch, Vidal has the innate ability to use Earth Magic, however, her power level far surpasses that of any green warlock/witch, since she is the first Green Witch who was gifted this magic from the Elder Goddess Gaea herself, which grants her a power level equivalent to that of the Scarlet Witch, who manipulates Chaos Magic originating from the Elder God Chthon. She can shape and manipulate this magic for different effects, such as forming tangible constructs of energy or cast spells without incantation. Her magic is primarily composed of green energy mixed with darker green and black hues.
- Psionics: Simillar to Maximoff, Vidal also display a wide array of psionic powers. As the Green Witch, Vidal's psionic powers are extremly potent and strong, rivalling with the Scarlet Witch.
- Psychic Energy Manipulation: Vidal can project energy blasts, streams, waves and bolts of her own psionic and telekinetic energy, allowing her to strike, push, pull or blow away her targets, potentially exerting enough force to destroy them. This energy manifests in any shape or form, outlining her telekinetic spheres of influence, as the energy is visible in a greenish color.
- Telekinesis: Vidal has the ability to move, levitate and otherwise manipulate objects using her psionic energy in a remote manner without the need for her energy to first be projected from her hands. Vidal utilized telekinesis power to trap Vertigo in the air as well as send her flying away.
- Telepathy: Vidal demonstrated the power to mentally interact with other living beings, allowing her to read their thoughts, emotions, desires, etc. With this, Vidal managed to enter Agatha Harkness's mind by detecting the Scarlet Witch's spell, which was suppressing her consciousness and trapping her in an illusion while forcing her to remain with Agnes' personality in the outside world.
- Empathy: Vidal demonstrated the power to mentally interact with other living beings' emotions. Vidal was able to understand the true reason behind Agatha Harkness's evil, as well as detect the hostile, dangerous and brutal intentions of Salem's Seven.
- Psychic Shield: Vidal demonstrates great resistance to psychic powers, so abilities such as telepathy, mental manipulation, etc. are not fully efficient. Thanks to this, Vidal was quickly able to perceive and overcome Vertigo's attemps to mind control her, despite having pretended to be controlled so she could later turn on her, as well as preventing her from seeing through her disguise.
- Illusion Manipulation: Vidal can cast very life-like illusions, as she demonstrated by casting a very effective illusion on herself that was realistic enough to trick an experienced witch like Agatha Harkness. She used this to enter the fake reality created by the Scarlet Witch's spell, being able to manipulate the illusions in a limited degree.
- Elemental Manipulation: As the Green Witch, Vidal is connected to earth and nature along with its elements, giving her control over them.
- Fire Manipulation: Vidal can create, shape and manipulate the element of fire. When taking Nicholas Scratch's soul to the afterlife, Vidal lit a torch with green fire so that she would be visible to him.
- Plant Manipulation: Vidal can create, shape, and manipulate plants, mainly multicellular organisms, including wood, vines, plants, moss, and parts of the plants, such as leaves, seeds, roots, fruits and flowers. Vidal can create vines to snare her enemies, as she did to Agatha Harkness.
- Reality Warping: As the Green Witch, Vidal has the ability to bend reality to her will in a similar way to the Scarlet Witch.
- Magic Negation: As the Green Witch, Vidal has the ability to neutralize other forms of magic, she does this by forcing magic to operate within the limits of the natural order and laws of the universe, effectively neutralizing them completely, as according to Agatha Harkness, the essence of magic involves violating the laws of nature. Vidal was able to neutralize Vertigo's magic when fighting her, thous turning her powerless. Despite being able to directly negate the Scarlet Witch's spell, she just chosed to weaken it enough for Agatha to be able to become aware of the illusions and start to actively resist the mind control, this is shown when in other occasions Vidal was able to effortlessly negate the Scarlet Witch's spells.
- Healing: As the Green Witch, Vidal has the ability to heal others wounds and illness. Vidal could have healed her son's illness but chosed not to do it, as it would go against the "natural course of things".
- Psionics: Simillar to Maximoff, Vidal also display a wide array of psionic powers. As the Green Witch, Vidal's psionic powers are extremly potent and strong, rivalling with the Scarlet Witch.

Usually, Vidal uses it to stop time while reaping and guiding the souls of the dead to the afterlife, and to those observing outside, it seems like as it happened in a fraction of seconds, no matter how much time it actually took.
- Soul Manipulation: As the Reaper of Earth, Vidal can manipulate souls and use it to various purposes.
- Resurrection: As the Reaper of Earth, Vidal can return beings from the dead, though she rarely does so, as it would disturb the natural order she oversees. Vidal was able to restore Lilia Calderu back from the dead at Jennifer Kale's request.
- Cosmic Awareness: As the Reaper of Earth, Vidal can perceive cosmic changes and anomalies, such as the presence of interdimensional beings or ruptures in space-time that could threaten the planet.
- Necroscience: As the Reaper of Earth, Vidal has a great knowledge, knowing all that has, would and will happen, specially when it comes to near-death and death experiences.
