Jules St. Thomas is a former member of the Masters of the Mystic Arts and was a close ally to the Ancient One, assisting in recruiting and training their future sorcerers. When Jules had encountered Stephen Vincent Strange, he invited him inside Kamar-Taj, despite the Ancient One's objections, and had later aided him with the conflict against Kaecilius and the Circle Sinister. During this battle, Jules learned that the Ancient One drew all her power from the Dark Dimension, which was forbidden to the Masters. Following the death of the Ancient One and the eventual defeat of Kaecilius, Jules was so mortified by his colleagues' constant violation of natural laws that he turned his back on his allies. Instead, he chose to restore balance by stripping sorcerers of all their powers, something that was forbidden by the elders of the Mystic Arts.
After surviving the Snap, Jules began to search for other sorcerers that had survived this genocidal event, but a lot learned of his plan and treachery. This led him to be confronted by Jason Wong, who had recently teamed with Captain Marvel and Hulk to stop him. Jules tried to seek reason as to why he had to do this, but Wong refused to listen to his words and fought him in a duel. Despite using his powers to defend himself, Jules was defeated by the combined strength of the Avengers and was imprisoned in the Kamar-Taj as punishment for his crimes. Despite his imprisonment, Jules provided a lot of important information to his former allies, but had warned them of a terrible event that would very soon arise in the Multiverse. Jules continued to remain imprisoned as he was visited by Doctor Strange, who had come to seek information.
