Laufey was the beautiful queen of the Frost Giants of Jotunheim, the mate of Farbauti, and the biological mother of Loki. He's the mother-in-law of Anthony Stark and the maternal grandmother of their daughters, Jane, Lily, Renesmee, and Sophia Stark.
While pregnant with Loki, Laufey fell deathly ill and would have died along with his child if Farbauti hadn't led the charge to find a cure for them.

Laufey was the queen of the Frost Giants, but fell gravely ill while he was heavily pregnant with Loki. His people, desperate to save the heir and their queen, were led by Farbauti to find a special herb to heal them. This was misunderstood as an attack and put Laufey's army in conflict against the Asgardians and their King Odin, beginning a war. Thankfully, most of the Jotuns managed to escape and once Laufey was healed, he gave birth to a healthy baby boy named Loki.
However, tragedy struck when Odin and his forces stormed Jotunheim. In a bid to protect their son, Laufey hid Loki within a temple next to the Casket of Ancient Winters and joined his mate on the battlefield. But, once the battle had ended and Laufey went to collect Loki, the temple was deserted. The Casket was gone, and all that was left of Loki was a small furred blanket.
For centuries, Laufey and Farbauti grieved for their child, after the hope of finding him had dwindled from their hearts.
