Magic, also spelled Magick, is a force older than mankind with the power to manipulate a target, whether tangible like an object or the environment, or something intangible like time, by supernatural means. Magic allows a user to bypass normal limitations and achieve results that are often not possible based on understanding laws of science. Magic can often be split into black and white, though depending on the situation, may also be neutral. All creatures (both human and non-human) are connected to this power and are able to access it through practice and training. However, whilst anyone can theoretically cast spells and perform other feats of magic with access to the proper texts and materials, mages generally have more knowledge and understanding of the mystical energies and supernatural forces that charged the entire universe. Supernatural beings are usually imbued with magical energy inside their bodies giving them their powers.
Magic was created by the Elder God Demiurge, initially creating the system known as Omnimancy and are ruled by the Fundamental Laws of Magic.
Source of Magic[]
The magical energy used to power spells can be drawn from a variety of sources, both personal and foreign. The known sources of magical power are:
- Personal powers of the body/mind/soul.
- Infinite natural supply of magic from the universe and the energies from the Sixth Dimension.
- Invoking and draining power from supernatural entities, such as gods, angels, demons, etc.
- Channeling energies from other dimensions.
These sources are divided into personal and foreign orientations. The degree of personal or foreign orientation depends on which sources are drawn from and how often. Personally oriented magical systems focus on sources 1 and 2, while foreign-oriented magical systems focus on sources 3 and 4. The more personally oriented the system, that is, the greater the degree of use of sources 1 and 2, the more adherent and strict it will be in relation to the Fundamental Laws of Magic. The more foreignly oriented the system, that is, the greater the degree of use of sources 3 and 4, the less adherent and flexible it will be in relation to the Fundamental Laws of Magic.
Variants of Magic[]
Alchemy[]
Alchemy, also known as Potions or Transmutation Magic, is an ancient and mystical art centered on the transformation and manipulation of matter and life forces. Practitioners of this magic are called Pink Warlocks/Witches, also alternatively called Potions Warlcoks/Witches or simply Alchemists, tap into the fundamental elements of existence to transmute substances, manipulate the life-force within living beings, and create or alter mystical objects.
The power of Alchemy manifests as a pink energy mixed with darker pink and black hues, glowing with an otherworldly luminosity. Alchemy usually manifests in potion brewings, where the Pink Warlocks/Witches can create potions for various purposes, such as antitode for a magical poison or healing severe injuries.
Alchemy grants its user a wide range of abilities, from the transmutation of base metals into precious ones to the manipulation of life forces and elemental energies. Alchemists are able to tap into the natural elements—earth, air, fire, and water—bending them to their will in creative and often profound ways. They also possess the ability to channel life magic, using it to heal or alter the life-force of living beings. Alchemy’s unique relationship with matter extends to mystical object manipulation, allowing alchemists to craft or imbue artifacts with powerful properties, making them valuable creators of enchanted items.
Blood Magic[]
Blood Magic is a powerful and ancient magical system, one of the oldest known, that uses blood and its esoteric nature to cast spells. It is a form of magic so ancient that it predates even magic based on words and incantations, and is also considered one of the most powerful and dangerous forms of magic. Practitioners of this magic are called Blood Warlocks/Witches or Hematomancers.
Blood Magic manifests itself as blood glowing scarlet red, and is activated when the user makes a blood offering, which is simply the voluntary spilling of blood, whether their own or that of others. It grants its user a wide range of abilities, such as blood manipulation, conjuration, binding and releasing, manipulation and control over life and death, using water and liquids to communicate, opening portals, performing magical oaths known as Blood Pacts, and even distorting reality.
The potency of Blood Magic depends not only on the skill and training of its practitioner, but is also linked to the amount of blood offered, so the more blood offered, the more potent the spell will be.
Blood Magic, like other forms of magic, can also have objects imbued with its power, such as the Bloodstone and the Staff of One.
Chaos Magic[]
Chaos Magic, also known as Red Craft, is a volatile and powerful system created by the Elder God Chthon that thrives on unpredictability. Its core is tied directly to the user's emotions, meaning that the magic's strength and stability are influenced by the user's emotional state. When the practitioner is calm and centered, Chaos Magic can be harnessed for both creation and destruction, with the ability to reshape reality, manipulate matter, or wield elemental and cosmic forces. However, as emotions become more erratic or intense, the magic grows stronger but also more unstable, potentially spiraling out of control. Practitioners of this magic are called Scarlet Warlocks/Witches, also alternatively called Chaos Warlocks/Witches.
This system manifests as a luminescent red mist or vapor, swirling with darker red and black hues, symbolizing the dynamic tension between order and disorder, light and darkness. The shifting colors reflect the balance—or imbalance—within the user, mirroring their inner turmoil or tranquility.
According to Abigail Harkness, Chaos Magic taps into the raw forces of creation and destruction, enabling the wielder to generate disasters, alter space and time, transmute matter, or manipulate the void. It is both a force of transformation and devastation, granting users immense power but at a cost. The more intense the user's emotions, the more potent the magic, but also the more dangerous it becomes, as it can act independently or against the user's will if emotional stability is lost.
Dark Magic[]
Dark Magic, also known as Dark Arts, is a magical system focused on using magic for selfish, self-serving and/or nefarious purposes, created by the Elder God Chthon. This magic is not simply a tool; it is a living, corrupting force that intertwines with the user’s innermost desires and fears, amplifying them until they spiral into madness. It is learned by those who seek ultimate power at any cost, but its seductive nature ensures that once the magic is embraced, it begins to consume its wielder's mind and soul. Practitioners of this magic are called Violet Warlocks/Witches, also alternatively called Dark Warlocks/Witches.
When used, Dark Magic manifests as a violet energy mixed with darker violet and black hues. This eerie energy drifts and swirls around the caster, radiating an ominous presence. The effects of Dark Magic extend far beyond mere spells or incantations—it has a profound impact on the user’s psyche, eroding their moral compass and ethical reasoning. Over time, it feeds on their ambition, fear, and desire, heightening these emotions until they dominate the user’s thoughts, driving them toward insanity. The addiction to this power grows with each use, pulling the practitioner deeper into its embrace.
This magic spans a vast range of abilities, including the manipulation of blood, disease, curses, and corruption. It commands the forces of death, destruction, and even the underworld itself. Users can warp reality, bend space and time, and harness cosmic forces. Yet, its most terrifying aspect is its ability to manipulate the user as much as the world around them. With powers that can absorb, corrupt, and annihilate, Dark Magic is also fiercely opposed to lighter, good-natured forms of magic, often working as an anti-magic force against them.
Dark Magic is not for the faint of heart, as its use comes at the cost of the practitioner’s sanity, morality, and ultimately their humanity. Though it offers immense power, it is a power that consumes from within, making those who wield it both feared and cursed.
Divination[]
Divination is a mysterious and intuitive magic that grants its user the ability to perceive hidden truths, foresee events, and sense the forces that shape reality. Rather than being a force that is actively summoned like other magical disciplines, Divination often occurs involuntarily, emerging when the user needs it most. However, through careful training and discipline, practitioners can learn to control and activate this power at will, allowing them to tap into profound sources of knowledge and insight Practitioners of this magic are called Yellow Warlocks/Witches, also alternatively called Divination Warlocks/Witches.
The power of Divination manifests as a yellow energy mixed with darker yellow and black hues. Divination's abilities varies, ranging from trances and full visions to minor insights flowing through the witch's mind. Divination can also manifest while the witch is asleep, such as when Calderu had a vision of the Salem's Seven when they entered the Witches' Road. These divinations can sometimes come in pieces, and because of their disorienting nature, they can be repeated incoherently. Calderu had a premonition that warned her not to let Alice Wu-Gulliver save Agatha Harkness during the latter's trial. However, she was not able to effectively communicate her vision to Wu-Gulliver, resulting in the protection witch's death at the hands of Harkness.
The abilities granted by Divination are vast and diverse. Practitioners can detect danger, sense death, and perceive the flow of destiny itself. They have the ability to access knowledge beyond the physical realm, communicate with divine entities, and see across dimensions. With their enhanced perception, they can track the supernatural, perceive hidden weaknesses, and glimpse the interconnected patterns that shape probability and events. This deep well of extrasensory power allows diviners to not only foresee outcomes but also gain wisdom and guidance from realms beyond ordinary human understanding.
Divination also allows its practitioners to mentally time travel, that is, their mind travels through time and possesses their own body in the past or future, and while the mind travels, their past or future self comes to the present, and when the present self returns, their past or future self cannot remember what happened while their present self possessed them. However, this is a rare ability and are is only present in lineages directly descended of the original Divination Witch. The only known divination witch with this ability is Lilia Calderu.
Divine Magic[]
Divine Magic is a powerful and transcendent form of magic bestowed by deities, representing the will and influence of divine beings across realms. This magic encompasses a wide range of abilities, each reflecting the immense power and control deities possess over the forces of the universe. It is an all-encompassing magic that shapes the fabric of reality, life, death, time, and space, as well as cosmic and mystical energies. Deities use this magic to create, destroy, bless, or curse, and it is often channeled through avatars or followers to perform miracles and bring their divine will to life.
The manifestation of Divine Magic varies, depending entirely on the deity who wields it. Each deity’s magic reflects their domain, nature, and personality, from radiant bursts of light symbolizing creation and life to darker energies signifying death or destruction. Some might manifest as natural phenomena like thunderstorms or flowers blooming, while others take more abstract forms like glowing cosmic energy or temporal distortions.
Deities have unparalleled mastery over energy and the elemental forces of nature, manipulating both to create and destroy as they see fit. Their command over psychic, life, and death magic allows them to grant life or take it away, shape minds, or bend the spiritual realm to their will. They can alter reality itself, controlling space, time, and cosmic energies to influence the world or even the destiny of individuals and nations. Faith and miracle magic allow deities to intervene directly in the lives of their followers, performing feats that defy natural laws, while mystical object manipulation lets them craft or empower legendary items.
Dragon Magic[]
Dragon Magic is a powerful magical system developed and used primarily by Dragons, and is notable for its direct connection with elemental and spiritual forces, allowing manipulations that transcend common human understanding. This magic is visually marked by manifestations in yellow and orange tones.
Through the usage of Sorcery, humans can harness Dragon Magic and utilize it in some degree, that can be manipulated by the dragon that is the source of their magic, and can also prevent them to use this magic. Notable examples are the inhabitants of the dimension of Ta Lo and their deal with the Great Protector.
Earth Magic[]
Earth Magic, also known as Green Craft or Order Magic, represents control, balance, and stability in the universe, focusing on aligning elements of reality to achieve harmony and peace, a system created by the Elder Goddess Gaea. It embodies the power to shape destiny, maintain order in chaotic situations, and manipulate the fundamental forces of nature, space, and time. Practitioners of this magic, called Green Warlocks/Witches, also alternatively called Earth Warlocks/Witches, can influence both the physical and metaphysical realms with precision and restraint, ensuring that things remain in equilibrium.
The manifestation of Earth Magic is a luminescent green mist or vapor, swirling with darker green and black hues, symbolizing the grounded nature of order and control. The green tones evoke life, balance, and structure, while the darker hues reflect the immense power that can be wielded when reality is reshaped to restore order.
While both Earth Magic and Witchcraft are branches of Magic that manipulate nature, the key difference is that Earth Magic can manipulate and shape the very concept of nature, order, and life, and can also manipulate the laws that govern these concepts. While Witchcraft allows the witch to harness and use the forces of nature to their advantage, it does not allow the laws of nature to be changed, only Earth Magic can do that.
Earth Magic enables its user to manipulate matter, reality, and cosmic forces, but always with the intention of maintaining balance. It can dispel chaos and restore harmony by regulating energy flows, negating destructive magic, and influencing the fabric of time and space. Its anti-magic abilities further enhance this stabilizing force, as it nullifies chaotic or disruptive magical influences.
Necromancy[]
Necromancy, also known as Death Magic, is a dark and forbidden branch of magic that delves into the manipulation of death, spirits, and the essence of life itself. Practitioners of this art, known as necromancers, seek to command the forces of the dead, gaining power over blood, bones, and souls. Unlike other forms of magic, Necromancy lacks a distinct physical manifestation, typically adopting the appearance of the user's main magical system. Whether through energy, energy, or any other visual cue, Necromancy remains a hidden force, subtly working behind the scenes of more overt magical displays. Practitioners of this magic are called Black Warlocks/Witches, also alternatively called Death Warlocks/Witches or simply Necromancers.
The essence of Necromancy lies in its ability to control life and death, allowing the necromancer to raise the dead, bind spirits, and manipulate the vital energies of living and non-living entities alike. From summoning skeletal armies to drawing power from the souls of the departed, Necromancy grants its user a terrifying mastery over forces that most would deem unnatural. Its reach also extends into divination, where necromancers peer into the veil of death to gain knowledge of the past, present, and future. Through osteomancy, they can control bones, while through soul magic, they bind spirits and even influence the flow of life and death itself.
However, the power of Necromancy comes at a steep cost. This magic exerts a corrupting influence on the mind, twisting the user's perspective until concepts like right and wrong become blurred or irrelevant. The necromancer grows increasingly addicted to this power, the allure of controlling death becoming an insatiable desire that slowly consumes their will and humanity.
Protective Magic[]
Protective Magic, also known as Warding Magic and Apotropaic Magic, is a protective and defensive form of magic that focuses on warding off evil, misfortune, and dark forces. Rooted in ancient traditions, this magic is designed to repel harm, neutralize curses, and shield the practitioner and others from malevolent influences. It is a magic that draws upon rituals, symbols, and energy manipulation to create barriers of protection and reflect or negate harmful magic. Practitioners of this magic are called Orange Warlocks/Witches, they are also alternatively called Protection Warlocks/Witches. When activated, Protective Magic manifests as a orange energy mixed with darker orange and black hues that surrounds the caster, acting as a tangible shield of protection.
Omnimancy[]
Omnimancy is an all-encompassing magic system that grants its user access to every magical system within their universe. The practitioner can channel and absorb mystical energies from all sources, making them incredibly versatile and powerful. By drawing on the full spectrum of magical forces, they are capable of wielding any form of magic, from elemental and psychic abilities to cosmic manipulation and reality warping. Omnimancy is usually exclusive to Nexus Beings and their relatives.
When Omnimancy is activated, it manifests as a luminescent mist or vapor, shifting through different colors depending on the specific type of magic being used at the moment. This vibrant display reflects the user's ability to tap into a wide array of magical powers, each one represented by its own unique color within the mist.
The essence of Omnimancy lies in its boundless potential. With access to every magic system, the user can adapt to any situation, counter any threat, and overcome any obstacle by drawing upon the most appropriate form of magic. However, the sheer scale of power available to Omnimancers also demands immense control, as the blending of so many magical forces can be overwhelming without mastery.
In essence, Omnimancy is the ultimate form of magical prowess, allowing its wielder to transcend the limitations of any single system and become a master of all mystical energies in existence.
Sorcery[]
Sorcery, also known as Eldritch Magic, is a powerful and intricate magic system that taps into mysterious forces beyond the natural world. Practitioners of this art harness energy that originates from supernatural entities and realms beyond the familiar physical universe. This energy is not simply borrowed or drawn at random but is acquired through careful study and mastery of ancient knowledge. Those who learn to wield it can access power that allows them to manipulate forces from other dimensions, channeling their essence into the material world. Practitioners of Sorcery are called Sorcerers/Sorceressess.
Sorcery is an art that can be learned by anyone with the discipline and determination to master it. The magic is shaped not by innate ability, but by knowledge, practice, and the connection the practitioner forms with the mysterious forces they wield. Its power, though immense, is only accessible to those who devote themselves to understanding its complexities, making it as much a craft as it is a supernatural force. Sorcery is a light-based magic that produces sparks and fiery energy in a yellow/orange color palette that is capable of giving off not only light, but also warmth and uses energy from alternate dimensions and supernatural beings as it power source. Being highly versatile, it can be shaped into different forms, from tangible energy constructs such as shields and weapons to specific formations such as symbols and geometric patterns that are often used to produce various effects known to sorcerers as spells, which are utilized for various purposes. While many of these arrays of intricate symbols commonly appear as disks projected in front of the caster's hands, others can appear as rings or bands that surround the caster's arms.
Mastering Sorcery requires not just an understanding of the energy's source, but a deep connection to it. The magic thrives in the hands of those who have cultivated a profound mental discipline, allowing them to control and direct the energy into specific shapes and effects. It is a system of magic that emphasizes both learning and finesse, where the practitioner’s command of the art directly correlates with the magnitude and precision of the power they can summon.
Voodoo[]
Voodoo is a vibrant and multifaceted magical system deeply rooted in African, Caribbean, and American spiritual traditions. It is characterized by its integration of rituals, spiritual practices, and symbolic elements. Unlike some other forms of magic, Voodoo does not have a distinct visual manifestation of its own. Instead, it often mirrors the visual aspects of the practitioner’s primary magic system, reflecting its adaptability and personal nature.
At its core, Voodoo revolves around the interaction with spirits, ancestors, and divine entities. Practitioners use various forms of magic to influence their surroundings, protect themselves, and achieve their goals. This system encompasses a range of practices including the creation and manipulation of mystical objects, the casting of spells through the channeling of spiritual powers, and the use of ritualistic symbols and effigies.
Central to Voodoo is the ability to channel divine or spiritual energy, often through rituals that involve blessings, curses, and other forms of supernatural influence. Practitioners can also harness herbalism and body magic to affect physical and spiritual states, and they employ animancy, the practice of bringing entities or spirits into action, which contrasts with necromancy’s focus on the dead.
The practice of Voodoo involves shaping and directing magical forces through various means such as symbolic magic, the creation of talismans, and the mastery of puppet-like figures to control or influence individuals. Shapeshifting and sympathetic magic are also integral, allowing practitioners to transform their forms or affect others indirectly through magical correspondences.
Witchcraft[]
Witchcraft, also known as Nature Magic, is a multifaceted magic system characterized by its deep connection to nature, the psychic realm, and the spirit world. Practitioners, known as witches, harness a variety of magical abilities that can manipulate the natural and metaphysical aspects of reality. Magicians who use this kind of magic, are usually the one who got their power at birth, which means they are born with witchcraft and have the ability to control it. Witchcraft is also defined the ability to tap into this universe's infinite store of ambient magical energy and manipulate these to a variety of effects. Practitioners of this magic are called Sapphire Warlocks/Witches, or simply Witches.
Witchcraft grants the user power over the natural environment, allowing them to manipulate plants, animals, manipulate natural elements, also grants the user psionic abilities such as telepathy, telekinesis and mind control and even control gravity.
The manifestation of this magic is visually represented by a blue energy mixed with darker blue and black hues. This ethereal blue haze appears whenever magic is being utilized, serving as a visual indicator of the magical energy at work. The energy varies in intensity and form, reflecting the strength and nature of the magic being performed, and adds a mystical and captivating element to the practice of Witchcraft.
White Magic[]
White Magic, also known as White Arts, is a magical system focused on using magic for unselfish, self-sacrificing and/or noble purposes, created by the Elder Goddess Oshtur. It is a magic deeply connected to the forces of life, light, and celestial realms, offering its wielder the power to mend, protect, and uplift. Practitioners of this are called Magenta Warlocks/Witches, also alternatively called Light Warlocks/Witches.
When used, White Magic manifests as a magenta energy mixed with darker magenta and black hues, glowing with an ethereal brilliance, able to shape reality, manipulate cosmic forces, and bring about miraculous effects like healing the sick, restoring life, or purifying corruption. Its reach extends across space and time, touching upon celestial and spiritual realms.
One of White Magic’s most profound aspects is its impact on the caster’s mind. As it weaves itself into the user’s psyche, it heals their emotional and mental scars, fostering clarity, peace, and inner strength. This magic reinforces the practitioner's moral and ethical compass, guiding them toward acts of compassion and righteousness. Unlike darker forms of magic, which degrade the soul, White Magic strengthens the user’s integrity and sense of virtue, aligning them with higher spiritual ideals.
Though focused on creation, protection, and healing, White Magic is not without its defensive capabilities. It possesses the power to counteract and dispel evil and dark forces, acting as a form of anti-magic specifically directed at corrupting and harmful spells. This makes it a powerful tool against malign energies and practitioners of dark arts.
