Mummudrai are a race of psychic beings native from the Underworld, a plane within the Astral Dimension. They are known by the Shi'ar as the anti-self, beings that one must fight and win in order to be born.

Creation[]
According to Shi'ar myth, Mummudrai, also known as the anti-self, are entities that each individual must fight before being born. The Mummudrai are residents of the Underworld, a plane within the Astral Dimension and are born alongside every sentient creature.
Birth of Cassandra Nova[]
One of the most influential Mummudrai in history was that of Professor Charles Xavier, which would come to be known as Cassandra Nova. When Cassandra awoke, she tried to choke her brother, forcing him to slay her in self-defense using his latent telepathic powers. Despite seemingly being destroyed, Nova survived.
Return of Cassandra Nova[]
Cassandra Nova not only survived her battle with Xavier; unlike most Mummudrai, she was able to build a body for herself due to becoming entangled with Xavier's powerful psyche in the womb and utilizing the vast potential in his genome. This process took decades, but when Nova finally had a physical presence, she set about tearing down Xavier's world. She orchestrated the genocide of Genosha, killing over 16 million mutants. She then proceeded to use her telepathic powers to ravage the Shi'ar Empire, outed him as a mutant, and severely damaged his reputation both among the Shi'ar and on Earth.
Nova was eventually defeated when Emma Frost tricked her into entering the body of Stuff, an amoeba-like metamorph and member of the Shi'ar Imperial Guard. Nova was trapped inside Stuff and her mind was erased. Professor X and Jean Grey submitted her on a readucation process, but weren't able to reach much progress.
Alternate Realities[]
Reality 10005's Unknown Branch[]
An alternate Cassandra Nova was born, but she was psychally killed by her brother, but stil have born alongside him. At some point, an rogue TVA agent called Paradox deemed her to dangerous to walk free, so he pruned her and exiled her to the Void at the End of Time.
Characteristic Traits[]
The Mummudrai are able to copy the DNA of other beings and construct physical bodies for themselves. These spectral entities can also manipulate both the DNA it copies as well as the genetic stock of others for numerous effects. i.e. acting as a rapid healing factor or phasing through solid matter & energy and mimic the DNA of others, being able to placate them for personal use or breaking down genetic chains at the molecular level for offensive purposes.
Because they are astral psychic entities Mummudrai are also avid at manipulating psionic and/or astral energy be it for invading peoples thoughts and possessing their minds to fine motor control like dismantling a gun bit by bit. They can also unlock the hidden potential of their doppelgangers DNA, accessing abilities that their chosen prey can not. After copying the DNA of Charles Xavier, the Mummudrai Cassandra Nova accessed the full spectrum of latent mutant functions in his genome, granting itself vast psionic powers.
Descriptions of Mummudrai encounters by the Imperial Guard member Manta noted their ability to strip "a man of his hopes and dreams," in line with the nature of Cassandra Nova's psionic attacks. Being a physical representation of what and who they're mimicking had all the potential to become based on different life choices.
