Nicholas Harkness-Vidal, also known as Nicholas Scratch is the long lost son of Agatha Harkness and Rio Vidal and the twin brother of Natalia Harkness-Vidal. At the age of 16, Harkness-Vidal and his sister were infected with smallpox. Harkness did everything he could to cure him and his sister, while Vidal cured only Natalia, causing Harkness-Vidal to die from the disease.

Years later, Harkness-Vidal was partially brought back to life by his mother Agatha Harkness using necromancy and the dark magic of the Darkhold. Harkness-Vidal appeared to have returned as an a heavy damaged corpse where his soul was barely able to stay binded, but in reality he had truly been resurrected, and he was found by the Salem's Seven, and they helped him to heal completely and restore his original appearence. Harkness-Vidal came to blame his mothers for the situation and grew to hate them deeply, even denying his origins by changing his own name to Nicholas Scratch, he allied himself with the Salem's Seven and sought revenge on his mothers.

In mid-2024, Scratch arrived in Eastview, where he assumed the identity of Eddie, and began a relationship with Billy Kaplan. In late 2026, Scratch was summoned to the Witches' Road to replace Sharon Davis as a member of the Coven of Chaos, where he was reunited with his mothers for the first time in centuries. Despite this, he maintained his false persona, even when his sister Natalia invaded the Alice Wu-Gulliver's Trial.

It would not be until Lilia Calderu's Trial that his true identity would be exposed by his sister. Despite this, he remained with the Coven until the end of the Trials. In contrast with his sister, Scratch saw himself unable to forgive his mothers and joined Vertigo's side on the final battle, however, upon seeing that she was too blinded with revenge and hatred, he switched sides and went against her, and when she was defeated, he teleported her away and left.

Personality[]

Nicholas Scratch is a complicated man, to say the least, driven by a deep hatred and resentment towards his mothers due to his traumatic death by Smallpox and failed ressurection which left him in a miserable state. This traumatic event has made him cynical, cold and manipulative, obsessed with getting his revenge.

His cynicism and coldness are demonstrated when, after being exposed and confronted about his actions, Scratch coldly responds that the world is cruel and he was just adapting, and also shows no emotion when reunited with his twin sister after centuries. His coldness and manipulation are shown when Scratch forged a false identity and manipulated Billy Kaplan, his sister and the witches of the Coven of Chaos to achieve his ultimate goal, he also demonstrates a high level of emotional control, where despite a burning hatred for his mothers, he was able to contain himself and maintain his facade until his exposure. Although he is difficult to anger, when angered, he becomes more aggressive, sarcastic, and sadistic, and his grudge and thirst for revenge become more visible, and if provoked enough, he can become physically violent and cruel.

Like his mother Agatha Harkness, Scratch, being a violet warlock, also delighted in absorbing the magic of other witches, constantly giving in when the Dark Magic influenced him to use this ability, however, due to his powerful willpower, Scratch managed to have self-control and not give in to the corrosive influences of the Dark Magic.

Despite this, Scratch still retains a vulnerable and kind side. Scratch seems to genuinely care for Kaplan and reciprocate his love, and he also seemed to genuinely sympathize with Vertigo's grief upon witnessing the death of her sisters, and despite his harsh words to his sister when she chose to forgive their mothers, Scratch deep down still cares about her. However, none of these feelings stopped him from manipulating them and using them for his own ends, even though he grew to regret some of his actions. In his final duel against the Coven of Chaos, Scratch refused to hurt or cause any harm to Kaplan and his sister, he even turned against Vertigo upon seeing she was too blinded by revenge and hatred.

Scratch was also not entirely blinded by his grudge and thirst for revenge, and was willing to put those feelings aside and join forces with his mothers to face a greater threat, such as when he allied himself with them to defeat Vertigo, when he allied with the Midnight Sons against Lilith and later with the Avengers against Kang the Conqueror and Doctor Doom.

Powers[]

Mage Physiology: Scrath is a warlock, a race of human-like beings that are born with the ability to harness Magic.
- Witchcraft: As a warlock, Scratch have access to a specific kind of magic exclusive to warlocks known as Witchcraft, the ability to tap into this universe's infinite store of ambient magical energy and manipulate these to a variety of effects. A skill derived from three major sources: personal powers of the mind/soul/body, powers gained by tapping the universe's ambient magical energy and employing it for specific effects and finally, powers gained through the tapping of extra-dimensional energy by invoking entities or objects of power existing in mystical dimensions tangential to her own. The latter means of power is usually gained by the recitation of incantations. Although Witchcraft usually manifests as a luminescent blue mist or vapor, Scratch's magic is cyan due to he being both a sapphire warlock and a green warlock.
  - Energy Manipulation: Scratch is able to shape his mystical energy into tangible constructs and utilize it in various ways.
    - Energy Projection: Scratch could project powerful bolts and blasts of cyan mystical energy from his hands.
    - Energy Absorption: Scratch can absorb energy and convert it into his own Witchcraft energy, also being able to use the absorbed energy to enhance his powers or redirect the attacks back to the attackers.
    - Telekinesis: Scratch can use his energy to control matter. Typically using it to open and close doors, attract objects to himself, stop objects thrown at him in the air, and even disarm his enemies.
  - Mental Manipulation: Simillar to his mother, Scratch's magic allows him to interact with and control the minds of others. He usually uses this to take control over some animals and even the undead army of Lilith.
  - Psychic Shield: Scratch is able to resist telepathic intrusion and reality manipulation to a degree, as he was able to resist Rio Vidal attempts to read his mind.
  - Spell Casting: Scratch could cast a variety of spells using gestures and verbal incantations. Scratch cast a powerful hypnotic spell that prevented others from recognizing him, however, the spell would only last while he was conscious, if he was stunned or unconscious the spell would be weakened or undone. Scratch also was able to cast runes to neutralize Agatha Harkness' magic to save Alice Wu-Gulliver's life.
- Earth Magic: As a green warlock, Scratch has the innate ability to use Earth Magic, focused on manipulating the forces of nature at a primordial level.
  - Elemental Manipulation: As a green warlock, Scratch is connected to earth and nature along with its elements, giving him control over them. He was able to create powerful blasts of wind in his fight with Agatha to push her across the place. He was also able to create fire with his hands.
- Dark Magic: As a violet warlock, Scratch has the innate ability to use Dark Magic. Scratch, however, doesn't use this much.
  - Power Absorption: Scratch can absorb powers; assimilating supernatural abilities and powers directly from others even straight from the source, removing into himself and utilize it in various ways, enhancing himself with each new power drain expanding her arsenal of abilities. Using this, Scratch was able to absorb the magic from 5 of the Salem's Seven, with their consent.
