Odin Borson was the former King of Asgard, son of Bor, husband of Frigga, father of Vali, Balder, Hela, Vidar, Tyr, Thor, Hermod, Aldrif, the adoptive father of Loki, and the former protector of the Nine Realms. During the ancient times, he was worshiped as the god of wisdom by the inhabitants of Earth. Once the greatest warrior in all the Nine Realms, over the centuries he learned how to appreciate peace, eventually banishing his own daughter to Hel when she attempted to subjugate the entire universe. When Thor almost provoked a new war with the Frost Giants of Jotunheim, Odin stripped him of his powers and exiled him to Earth, leaving Loki to take the throne. Around this time, Odin unexpectedly fell into the Odinsleep, and when Thor had returned and saved the Frost Giants from extinction at the hands of Loki, who seemingly lost his life during the conflict, Odin realized that Thor had proven that he would be worthy enough to take the throne of Asgard.

After learning that Loki survived his fall into the abyss and secretly made a deal with genocidal warlord Thanos, Odin sent Thor to capture him and be put on trial for causing the Chitauri Invasion on Earth. Just as Thor fulfilled the task in capturing Loki, Odin sentenced him to life in prison. When Odin's own wife Frigga was killed at the hands of the Dark Elves' leader Malekith, Odin vowed revenge on them, no matter the cost, putting him at odds with his son. After faking his death, Loki cast a spell on Odin, banishing him to New York City while masquerading as Odin and ruling Asgard himself. While he had eventually recovered from the spell placed on him by Loki, Odin chose to remain in exile in Norway and would ultimately reach the end of his extremely long life. After an emotional farewell to his sons, Odin finally went to Valhalla. His spirit, however, would remain with Thor and all Asgardians to impart wisdom and help them on their future journeys. His role in helping his people escape Ragnarök was a success and would go on to settle on Earth.

After Jane Foster sacrificed her life and entered Valhalla, Odin accepted Jane as one of their own and used his power to bring her back to life. He was even responsible for helping Jane recover Undrjarn the All-Weapon from the furnaces of Nidavellir. He continued to guide Jane in helping her to imprison Røkkva. Months later, Odin was among those that were brought back to life by Doctor Strange, who used the Yggdrasil Staff to fight against the Dark Council that invaded Earth during the War of the Realms. Despite having his moment with his son, Odin was wounded by Laufey, who attempted to kill Loki and Hela. Once the battle had come to an end and the remaining forces of the Dark Council chose to surrender, Odin spent his last moments with his family, telling them that they were all the greatest things he ever created and had never been proud in making heroes of the Nine Realms. At the moment before he died, Odin passed the power of the Odin-Force to his family and to use it well before returning to Valhalla.

Battle of New Asgard[]

When the Dark Council prepared to launch the final attack to take over Midgard and destroy New Asgard, Odin was among the fallen Asgardians that were resurrected by Thor with the power of the Resurrection Stone. However, it turns out that Odin had a part in this, for which he was the one responsible in using the Odin-Force to increase the stone's power after Thor communed with him and his forefather to give him the strength he needed to fight against the Dark Council.

With his armor already with him and mounted on Sleipnir, who had survived Ragnarök, Odin, along with his family, friends, and allies, lead the charge against the Dark Council.

Death[]

When Thor attempted to use the Yggdrasil Staff to save him, Odin told him to put it away and have it stored safely in the New Asgard Vault. Thor didn't want him to go, but Odin reminded who he was and to never mourn him. He told him and the rest of his family that they were the greatest things he ever created. He even had his exact moment to speak to Hela, who finally showed remorse since he saved her life from Laufey. Odin tells Hela that she's got a lot of things to atone for, but had chose to forgive her, to which his daughter gladly accepted.

Before dying once again, Odin went on to pass the power of the Odin-Force, including Loki, Rūna, and Heimdall, for whom he had already considered as family. Once the Odin-Force was given, Odin tells his family that he loves them all and his spirit returns to Valhalla once again. He continued to commune with Thor and his family, promising to guide them through darker times.

Legacy[]

Following his second death, Hela abandoned her old ways and decided to honor her father's memory. However, she decides to leave New Asgard and return back to Niffleheim in order to never pose a threat to the Nine Realms again. Even Loki finally came to accept him as his father and earn himself a seat in the Congress of Worlds by representing Jotunheim.
