The Olympians are the inhabitants of Olympus, on which the gods of Greek & Roman mythology are based. They are a race of human-like beings descended from Titans who settled on Olympus eons ago, possessing a highly advanced form of technology resembling magic, which their civilization is built on.

The Olympians are a brave & powerful warrior race whose passion for adventure is their religion, & their interactions with humans over 1,000 years ago had a strong influence on Mediterranean culture, with the Olympians becoming the template for the region's Greek & Roman mythology.

History[]

Origin[]

The Olympians are descendants of Titans who traveled to & settled on Olympus due to overpopulation on the planet TitanOuranos, a Titan, was guided by the Elder Goddess Gaea to Olympus.

Reign of Ouranos[]

Ouranus, now ruler of Olympus, mated with Gaea producing a number of powerful offspring: the Titans, the Cyclopes, & centimanes. Ouranus feared his children would usurp his power, so he imprisoned the centimanes & cyclopes in Tartarus, the dark abyss of the underworld. Gaea, disgusted with the treatment of her children, urged the Titans to overthrow Ouranus. The youngest Cronus agreed & led his brothers into ambushing Ouranus in his sleep. He then castrated him with a sickle given to him by Gaea. A dying Ouranus prophesied that one of Cronus' own children would overthrow him just as he had overthrown Ouranus. Cronus then took his sister Rhea as his wife & became the new ruler of Olympus.

Reign of Cronus[]

Cronus seized Olympus, but he neglected to free the Cyclopes or the Hekatonkheires. Whenever his wife, Rhea, gave birth to each of his own children, Cronus had the infant imprisoned in Tartarus. The offspring he sent there were Hades, Poseidon, Hera, Demeter, & Hestia. Appalled at the mistreatment of their children, Cronus's wife Rhea concealed her sixth pregnancy from him & secretly gave birth to Zeus & hid him on the island of Crete on Earth.

Titanomachy[]

Zeus grew to adulthood among the shepherds of Mount Ida, Crete, & then set about taking revenge on Cronus. Zeus went down into Tartarus & freed his siblings, who had all now grown to adulthood. Zeus also freed the three one-eyed giants called Cyclopes & the three hundred-handed giants called Hekatonchieres, all six of whom Cronus had imprisoned there for fear they would help overthrow him. The Cyclopes provided the young Olympians with powerful weapons to defeat the Titans. They gave Poseidon a powerful Trident, Hades the Helm of Invisibility, & Zeus powerful Thunderbolts. The young Olypmians & his allies fought a ten-year war with the Titans which ended with Zeus's victory.

The Titans were imprisoned in Tartarus, & the Hekatonkheires were made their guards. Atlas was given the special punishment of holding up the heavens.

Reign of Zeus[]

Following their final victory, the three brothers divided the world among themselves: Zeus was given Olympus, & was recognized as overlord. Poseidon was given the oceans of Earth, whereas Hades was given the Underworld, the realm of the dead. He was tasked with guarding the Titans for all eternity.

Zeus married the goddess Hera, but he engaged in many affairs with goddesses, titans, nymphs, & mortal women & produced various famous offspring. By Hera, he sired Ares, Eris, Hebe, & Hephaestus. His first lover was Metis, a Titan, with whom he sired Athena. A relationship with Dione, a Titan, produced Aphrodite. He was involved with Leto & sired the twins, Apollo & Artemis. He was also involved with Maia a Nymph & sired Hermes. He even mated with mortal women & became the father of many heroes, including the mighty Hercules.

Characteristic Traits[]

While Olympians & humans look the same in appearance, they are very much different. The Olympians all possess certain superhuman physical attributes, such as:

  • Superhuman Strength: All Olympians are superhumanly strong, with the average male god being able to lift about 30 tons & the average female goddess being able to lift about 25 tons.
  • Superhuman Speed: All Olympians have the potential of being able to run & move at speeds much greater than the finest human athlete. For example, Hercules possesses superhuman speed, allowing him to run 111-115 mph at peak range.
  • Superhuman Stamina: The musculature of all Olympians produces considerably less fatigue toxins during physical activity than the muscles of human beings. The average Olympian male & female can exert themselves at peak capacity for about 24 hours before fatigue impairs them.
  • Superhumanly Dense Tissue: The skin, muscle, & bone tissues of all Olympians are about 3 times denser than similar human tissue.
  • Superhuman Durability: The bodies of all Olympians are known to be more resistant to physical injury than the bodies of humans. Olympians are capable of withstanding great impact forces, exposure to temperature & pressure extremes, falls from great heights, etc., without sustaining physical injury. Unlike most Asgardians, who are about as physically durable as Spider-Man, the Olympians can withstand high caliber bullets. For example, Hercules was able to withstand high caliber bullets as it only caused him to "laugh it all off".
  • Regenerative Healing Factor: Despite their natural durability, it is possible for any of the Olympians to sustain injury. However, if an Olympian is injured, his or her godly life force enables him or her to recover with superhuman levels of speed & efficiency. As with most of their other powers, the speed & extent of these powers varies from one Olympian to another. For instance, most Olympians are unable to naturally regenerate missing limbs or organs while a small minority can, unless they use magical assistance to do so.
  • Alleged True Immortality: Unlike Asgardians, all Olympians are true immortals. They cease to age upon reaching adulthood & cannot die by conventional means. Their bodies are also immune to all known Earthly terrestrial diseases & resistant to conventional injury. Despite their alleged true immortality, it was revealed that they had to consume Olympian Ambrosia, the nectar of the Gods, to remain virile & deathless.
  • Energy Manipulation: In addition, many Olympian gods possess additional superhuman powers which may be magical in nature. They have some potential to manipulate magical or cosmic energies for various purposes. These powers are mostly limited to changing their appearance or shape & teleporting across great distances. However, a small minority of the Olympians are capable of manipulating vast amounts of energy for a variety of purposes including teleportation, shape-shifting, matter manipulation, augmentation of their physical capabilities, erecting powerful force fields, firing powerful blasts of energy for destructive purposes, granting superhuman powers to objects & beings, etc. For example, the sea god, Neptune, can create powerful tidal waves, whirlpools, seaquakes, & other water-related phenomena.

All Olympians possess specific skills associated with their area of expertise. For example, as the Olympian God of War, Ares is a formidable combatant with extensive knowledge of both armed & unarmed combat, whereas Venus, the Olympian Goddess of Love, is highly skilled in all forms of physical & sexual pleasure. Most Olympians have had some degree of armed & unarmed combat training.
