Lorna Maximoff, legally known as Lorna Dane, is a native of Sokovia and the long-lost sister of Pietro and Wanda Maximoff. Her existence was unknown to them because her mother Iryna died in the first months of being pregnant of Lorna, but before she died, she was able to wrap her daughter in a Chaos Magic cocoon so that the pregnancy could continue.

Lorna was adopted by the Danes, a Sokovian family close to the Maximoffs. Unlike her siblings, Lorna was not experimented on by HYDRA. Therefore, when the Avengers arrived in Sokovia and Ultron began to execute his plan, Lorna and her family moved to the United States. All the stress and trauma caused Lorna to activate her latent mutant gene, gaining abilities to manipulate magnetism, manifested as a green energy that comes out of her hands. Lorna adopted the codename Polaris and began acting as a vigilante.

In 2018, she survived the Snap, being the only one in her adoptive family to have done so. This ended up triggering her secondary mutation, which granted her the ability to absorb negative emotions and empower herself, Lorna was overwhelmed by these emotions, leading to her mind to split and create the Polaris personality. Upon learning to control her secondary mutation, Lorna and Polaris' personalities integrated and merged, with Lorna adopting traits from both, however, should she lost control over her secondary mutation that her personality will split again.

In 2023, her adoptive family was resurrected by the Blip. Soon after, Polaris discovered that she was adopted, that she was in fact Lorna Maximoff, and therefore the younger sister of the Avenger Wanda Maximoff, which led her to search for her sister in order to connect more with her biological family. She eventually found her sister in Westview, finding the entire town under the Scarlet Witch's Hex. Initially, she allied herself with SWORD to try to reach Wanda inside the Hex, but upon realizing Tyler's true intentions, she teamed up with Monica Rambeau.

After this, Polaris and Rambeau managed to cross the Hex barrier and sought to alert Maximoff to the threat of Tyler Hayward, but were ignored by a hostile Maximoff. After Chthon revealed himself, Polaris joined Wanda and Agatha Harkness to face him, with Polaris finally informing Wanda of her parentage. And with the strength found in her newfound sister, Wanda was able to overcome Chthon and transform into the Scarlet Witch.

Polaris and the Scarlet Witch left Westview to bond and get to know each other, and eventually parted ways, but kept in touch.

Personality[]

Lorna's Personality[]

Lorna is a calm, kind, friendly, loyal, caring and dedicated person who would do anything for the people she cares about. But the most important people in her life are her family. As a loving daughter, Lorna thinks of her family, motivates them, and would call them afterward to let them know she was okay.

Lorna had a cheerful, outgoing and easygoing demeanor, had a strong sense of humor and was often irreverent. Acting as a vigilante she became more serious, but still maintained her humor and attitude, showing her more compassionate side, facing crime and helping her neighbors.

Polaris' Personality[]

Unlike Lorna, Polaris is cold, cynical, and violent, being unnecessarily brutal in her approaches, possessing several traits of sociopathy, narcissism, and sadism. Polaris is extremely ruthless and believes that the ends justify the means, so Polaris will not hesitate to hurt and even kill in her search for justice, even resorting to physical and psychological torture to achieve her goals. In addition, Polaris demonstrates a sharp, sarcastic, and mocking sense of humor, showing no concern whatsoever about how her words affect others, and demonstrates a certain level of arrogance, rationalizing and justifying her actions as what must be done and that she acts for the greater good, when in reality, her actions are much more selfish and self-centered than what she says, showing no genuine remorse for her actions.

Due to her ruthless mindset, Polaris sees compassion and empathy as weakness, and she constantly provokes and insults Lorna for her compassion, showing herself to be extremely cruel and brutal.

Combined Personality[]

Lorna developed a strong personality with no remorse for the things she does. This was shown when she did not hold back from saying all the people she had killed in her life and even feeling proud of it. Lorna is also temperamental, being prone to fits of rage, where she becomes aggressive, violent and impulsive.

Despite her strong personality, Lorna still had compassion and altruism, demonstrated when she saved Billy and other Westview civilians and later when she sheds a few tears after learning that her sister's husband Vision were experimented on and killed. With this knowledge, she planned on killing Tyler to avenge her friends.

Powers[]

  • Hybrid Physiology: Maximoff is a Witch/Mutant hybrid, having the witch heritage from her mother and the mutant heritage from her father.
    • Mutant Physiology: Lorna is an Alpha-level Mutant, hence, she is a extremly powerful mutant.
      • Electromagnetism Manipulation: Lorna can manipulate electromagnetism, one of the four fundamental forces in the physical universe responsible for numerous phenomenon cases, notably those affiliated with electrostatics and magnetism. Whenever she activates her powers, it manifests as a green energy.
        • Metal Manipulation: At a low level, Polaris can effortlessly launch pieces of metal like bullets, alter projectile trajectories of bullets, and even manipulate the standard mechanics of tool. For grander feats, she can easily lift, immobilizing, and crumble giant structures like. Her precision with this power also allows her to launch countless projectiles in rapid succession and maintain the structural integrity of her targets. Likewise, she is able to perform several feats at once, despite the amount of concentration required. She can also forcibly extract the metal within a person's body if there is a sufficient amount to be manipulated.
        • Electromagnetokinetic Flight: Polaris can fly by gliding on the magnetic fields she creates, or by having metal on her and moving with it. Alternatively, she can also draw herself to metal.
        • Magnetic Detection: Polaris can sense the presence of magnetism and possibly gain detailed understanding about the magnetism she is sensing, including the amount/size of magnetism she is sensing and whether it is hidden.
        • Magnetically Enhanced Condition: Polaris can use magnetism to enhance her physical and mental capabilities.
          • Magnetokinetic Regeneration: Polaris can use magnetism to regenerate her body with the amount of magnetism used defining the speed of healing.
        • Magnetic Energy Manipulation: Polaris can create, shape and manipulate the magnetic energy, the energy connected to the distance between and alignment/orientation of objects within a magnetic field.
          • Magnetic Force Field: Polaris can protect herself from physical harm, can stretch her fields to protect a large group, and can suspend persons or objects in the air.
          • Magnetic Aura: Polaris can release and surround herself in/with magnetic field for defensive and/or offensive purposes, possibly becoming almost untouchable and granting her various abilities/attacks.
        • Electronic Disruption: Polaris can disrupt electronic signals, causing cell phones and other electrical appliances to work erratically, or fail completely.
        • Electrical Telekinesis: Polaris can move, manipulate or otherwise interact with matter using electricity.
        • Electrical Telepathy: Polaris can read, scan, manipulate and project thought waves as electromagnetic pulse signals.
          • Mind Control: Polaris can achieve mind control by controlling metallic particles within the brain and nervous system.
      • Secondary Mutation: Due to the stress of losing her family on the Blip, Polaris manifested a second mutation that granted her additional powers.
        • Negative Emotion Absorption: Polaris was able to absorb negative emotional energy to transform into a virtual powerhouse.
          • Enhanced Condition: By channeling negative emotions, Polaris could improve her physical atributtes in a simillar way she does using her magnetic powers.
          • Negative Emotion Inducement: Polaris could also release the negativity back into her environment at an enhanced level, which caused others to act more violent, selfish, bloodthirsty, etc.
    • Mage Physiology: In addition to her mutant genes, Maximoff also possessed witch genes. However, her witch genes have been completely suppressed by her mutant genes and will likely never be activated.
