Powell Moerter was a former practitioner of the Mystic Arts who fell into line with Kaecilius's scheme to bring the world into the sway of the Dark Dimension. He fought alongside Kaecilius in various encounters with the Masters of the Mystic Arts as they systematically worked to bring about the downfall of three Sanctums protecting the planet from the rogue group's benefactor in the Dark Dimension, Dormammu. It wouldn't be long when he was confronted by the Mystic Arts's trained disciple Doctor Strange, who managed to defeat him in the Astral Plane.
However, due to tapping into the powers of the Dark Dimension, Powell's astral resurfaced in the Astral Plane and managed to return to his physical body. He then sought to fight off Doctor Strange, who was now "Sorcerer Supreme" of the Mystic Arts, once again in combat. Powell thought he was successful to defeat him, but in the end, he was outmatched by his foe once again, and then his powers were stripped away and imprisoned in Kamar-Taj as punishment for his crimes in betraying the Mystic Arts.

- In the comics, Powell Moerter worked as an unscrupulous lawyer in New York City accepted Dormammu as a client, looking for a clause that would allow Dormammu to be able to return to Earth. Moerter was defeated by Foggy Nelson, and he was banished by Doctor Strange in the Dark Dimension together with Dormammu.
