Wanda Maximoff was a native-born Sokovian with the innate ability to manipulate Chaos Magic, a power she unknowingly inherited from her mother. Orphaned during the Novi Grad bombings, she and her twin brother, Pietro, were radicalized against Tony Stark and volunteered for HYDRA’s experiments, where exposure to the Mind Stone awakened her latent abilities — an inheritance tied to her grandfather, Magneto. When HYDRA fell, she and her brother allied with the living AI, Ultron, believing he would bring justice to their war-torn country. However, upon realizing his true genocidal intent, they turned against him during the Battle of Sokovia, siding with the Avengers. Initially a reluctant hero, Wanda’s powers evolved through relentless pain and loss, swelling like a balloon until she broke down at the site of her and Vision's future home in Westview. Overwhelmed by grief, her magic exploded, inadvertently reshaping reality itself and creating an idyllic illusion to escape her sorrow. Within the Hex, a massive enchantment of unbridled power, she unknowingly fulfilled an ancient prophecy, embracing her identity as the Scarlet Witch in defiance of Agatha Harkness' antagonism.
Biography[]
The Prophecy[]
- "The Scarlet Witch is not born; she is forged. She has no coven, no need for incantation. Her power exceeds that of the Sorcerer Supreme. It is her destiny to destroy the world."

Early Life[]
Phase Two[]
Phase Three[]
Phase Four[]
Phase Five[]
Appearance[]
Wanda appears as a very beautiful woman currently in her twenties-to-thirties with a 5-foot 6-inch stature, long and shiny hair that varies in colour, blistering green eyes, a European white complexion and a slim yet athletic body build. She speaks with a thick Sokovian accent that sounds similar to that of a Russian but has learned how to disguise it as an American while training with the Avengers. Whenever emotional, Wanda's accent returns and Agatha noted it "comes and goes".
She has a distinctive scent of Jasmine, Sweet Tea, Cherry and Sage.
Personality[]
Wanda was initially "overly stimulated" rather than mentally insane because of the vast amount of knowledge her powers afford as Wanda can connect to every feeble psyche in her vicinity. Which she had little control over thanks to HYDRA's lack of cosmic understanding. She is a serious and introverted individual with ever-expanding emotional fragility due to her tragic upbringing. While she is very passionate about her beliefs and quite direct about how she feels, this has proven to be a deadly flaw, as it makes her prone to impulsiveness and error including siding with Ultron, an impact that deeply influences much of her actions thereafter.
She developed to be very aggressive and angry while preferring to be hands-on as demonstrated by her willingness to join a neo-nazi organisation in order to directly fight the one whom she believed to be responsible for the death of her parents ie; Tony Stark. Wanda also expressed hatred for the United States of America. Wanda's anger leads her to be vengeful, as demonstrated when she volunteered for experiments to become a weapon against the United States and Tony Stark, seeking out Ultron's body in order to destroy him after he caused the death of her brother, and angrily telling Thanos that he could not understand her pain after she was forced to kill Vision in the attempt to stop him.
At her core, however, Wanda has a caring personality devoted to protecting innocents, and a willingness to fight for what she feels is right as evidenced by her siding with the Avengers in order to fight Ultron's forces and evacuate her home country. Later demonstrated once again when she releases Westview to free its nearly 4,000 citizens from their nightmare at the cost of her family and happiness.
In the past, she had no qualms about manipulating others mentally in order to achieve what she wanted, though she later regretted doing this and no longer used a big part of her telepathic powers instead of relying on more projectile abilities like energy blasts, telekinetic throws, and barriers for protection. As Wanda's character darkened, during Westview, she showcased her mind control once again by effortlessly taking control of dozens of SWORD agents for a short time and had previously, unintentionally, taken command of over 3,800 individuals.
After getting to know the Avengers, she has since let go of any grudge or hatred she previously held against the team as well as the United States. Due to her past affiliation with Ultron and her role in the destruction of Sokovia, Wanda carried a deep fear of making mistakes and was frequently wracked with guilt and remorse. Her self-doubt and guilt over the mistakes she has made have at times led her to inaction, even though she is generally action-oriented.
She became considerably more mellow after joining the Avengers, as she is seen to be more compassionate, level-headed, et cetera. Additionally, she rarely uses her powers to deal out lethal force unless completely necessary, using her powers more often to incapacitate her opponents. However, she also is less inclined to hold back in a fight, even against fellow Avengers, as shown when she hurled Black Widow several feet when she attempted to overpower Hawkeye. She has shown a willingness to kill her enemies in extreme circumstances, as shown when she telekinetically threw a carving knife at a perceived assailant before realizing it was Hawkeye, and when she purposefully lifted Proxima Midnight into a Thresher and shredded her to stop the latter from killing Black Widow.
Quickly, she grew to care for Vision during their time together at the Avengers compound. However, she was selfishly disappointed that he was more loyal to Tony Stark (his father) and the people of Earth than to her. However, in the aftermath of the Avengers Civil War, she has put the grudge aside and developed strong romantic feelings for him to the point that, after she escaped from the Raft, she went off the grid with him to Europe and was in the beginning stages of starting a new life with him. When forced to kill him, Wanda openly wept as she was killing the being she loved more than anything else in existence. Upon coming back to life and returning to Earth to fight against Thanos and his armies, Wanda displayed an overwhelming vehemence towards the alien warlord, tempered by subtle confidence. Her presence and movements were more deliberate and forceful, unlike the relative apprehension she displayed earlier. This was most evident when Thanos was trying to break through her protections, she gave him an almost mocking smirk before forcefully swatting away his weapon with relative ease.
By the time she created her ideal alternate reality, Wanda's mentality had deteriorated to the point where she believed the "Pietro" that showed up at her house, was her actual brother despite his different physical appearance. She was incredibly hostile, exiling anyone from the Hex who directly mentioned her past or disrupted her fantasy and was in complete denial that any of it ever happened. While in Westview, she displayed certain humour and sassiness and started a bubbling friendship with Agnes before learning the dark witch's true nature and intent.
Powers and Skills[]
- "The Scarlet Witch is a being of unfathomable magic. She can rewrite reality as she chooses, and is prophesied to either rule, or annihilate the entire cosmos. She took complete control over a town using just her mind and could enslave the entire Multiverse if allowed to cross into it."
- ―Doctor strange about the Scarlet Witch
Powers[]
This article is currently undergoing extensive revisions, with the categories below being the most subject to change.
- Magic: Born to Iryna Maximoff, Wanda inherited a magical gene unique to all natural-born witches, similar to Evanora or Agatha Harkness, which provided her a latent "spark" enabling access to a limited array of magic that her body would passively harness similar to how regular humans expel carbon dioxide as a byproduct of breathing, she would conduct an essence from adjacent dimensions like a lightning rod and would metabolise it. This gene was inadvertently the courtesy of a Faltine from eons past, however, according to Agatha, her power was destined to eventually fade like most if it had not been for the intervention of the Mind Stone which supposedly "gave [her] the big-guns". Despite this, she was already no "ordinary" witch, while Iryna and Erik conceived Wanda, Erik was possessed by Chthon, The Original Demon, a primordial emblem of dark magic and chaos, thus making the elder god her third heritage and true parentage merely borrowing mortal qualities and mutant potential from Erik. In a way, she is a cambion in everything except blood, her spirit reeks of 'him'. An oddity - genetically human with the witch and mutant biology influenced by her spiritual connection to a Hell-Lord. This connection to Chthon altered the way her body conducts mystic energy so that she can only produce Chaos Magic and any attempts to use other forms simply converts in both form and function to suit this. While witches can draw from a number of realms, Wanda was manipulated to draw from madness, grief, heartache, pain and suffering, from anger and fear. Perverting and twisting her. Furthermore, she exists as a "nexus being" for Earth 1999 meaning she is a release valve and focal point for the convergence of that universes' ambience and is a keystone of the Multiverse as she is crucial to its ultimate coherence and stability, an "Anchor Point" according to He Who Remains and outside the control of The Time Variance Authority and even the One Above All as the only individual with true and independent free will outside of Yggdrasil, "How can you control someone who controls chaos when reality is chaos?", for while she is not all-powerful and she does have superiors, chaos magic places her outside the realm of dictation, outside the Sacred Timeline yet so integral to it that she can't be removed without breaking the universe. For fourteen years, after her first probability hex at age 10, she showed no sign of any powers and it wasn't until HYDRA's experimentation on her that there was an outbreak of mystical might that has progressively grown over time. Though, HYDRA and subsequently SHIELD classified her as a Mutant due to the believed illegitimate parental heritage of Erik Lensherr and the fact that officially her powers only surfaced after trauma via experimentation, fitting with what they knew about mutants. SHIELD rationalised that the cosmic stress of the Mind Stone placed on her mind and body triggered a massive genetic awakening that revolved around neuro-electric interfacing, telekinesis, energy manipulation, and mental manipulation. All of them were categorised in the Omega-Level and were designated a 'avengers-level threat'. These "mutant" powers were eerily similar to that possessed by the Chitauri Scepter, which housed the Mind Stone, they assumed her X-Gene instinctively mirrored the Infinity gem in its own nature, indeed possessing similar frequencies. While this was logical at the time, recently it has been brought into question but it was confirmed that some form of energy bond or connection was created, so intimately that she described it herself as though a part of the Mind Stone actually lives within her despite its corporeal shell being destroyed which could indicate that she is now serving as it's physical representation in the 1999/Sacred Timeline universal order. This belief is reinforced by her status as the Nexus Being with them having a connection to the Infinity Stones according to lore and can supplement them if need be. Wanda's psionic abilities and magic increase in capability, versatility and potency when she experiences emotional turmoil or an increase of confidence such as when she grew more confident due to Hawkeye's talk with her, making her an Avenger. Soon after, when Pietro died, Wanda lashed out in sorrow, boosting her powers from the extreme pain the loss of her brother caused. Wanda's powers were temporarily weakened during the Avengers Civil War due to her guilt and loss of faith, though she still managed to overpower the Vision, Black Panther, Iron Man, Spider-Man, and Black Widow proving to be a formidable threat even when held back and during Thanos' Crusade, after gaining more understanding of her abilities and confidence, she was accomplishing incredibly impressive feats while still not even reaching the limits and full capabilities of her extensive powers. During the Battle of Earth, she was so enraged by Thanos and determined to take his life, her powers through a subtle confidence and a greater understanding unleashed a raw strength, enough to overpower Thanos with ease and come the closest to killing him. As the Scarlet Witch, her potential far surpasses that of all conventional witches and sorcerers possessing no need for incantation or coven or even calling upon a higher entity like the Masters of the Mystic Arts do. Furthermore, due to absorbing the dark magic of Agatha Harkness and subsequently converting it into Chaos magic before studying the Darkhold for two years alone, she has increased not only her control but also her overall level of power wielding Agatha's and all the magic the latter had consumed in her long life from others. At this point, she has been confirmed as the most powerful person on the face of the planet and one of the most powerful individuals in the entire Multiverse with her innate power being superior to every single member of the Masters of the Mystic Arts including that of the Sorcerer Supreme Doctor Strange, Wong as well as many deities and even cosmic beings with only a few surpassing her, predominantly consisting of multiversal entities such as the Living Tribunal or the One Above All with the Darkhold going so far as to claim that she is destined to either rule 'everything' or to destroy it. Indeed, Doctor Strange believes her to be the greatest known threat to the Multiverse, outweighing Kang the Conquerer himself.
- Superhuman Durability: With Chaos Magic, Wanda could heighten her otherwise human physical abilities. During the battle of Kamar-Taj, she was able to easily withstand a heavy-duty magical blast from one of the cannons without any injuries, even after her outfit was set on fire and later, during the battle of Wundagore Mountain, she was able to withstand many superhuman attacks from Clarice Ferguson even when she used extra-dimensional energy to boost the power of her attacks, only temporarily staggering and knocking her a few steps back but sustaining no injuries.
- Regeneration: Using Chaos Magic, Wanda was able to increase her healing factor to a level far superior to an average human. When crossing an interdimensional rift to return from the Mirror Dimension, she was mortally wounded, but recovered from all of her huge cuts and contorted body in just a few seconds.
- Chaos Magic: Wanda is uniquely able to harness and generate apparently boundless quantities of Chaos Magic as the realization of the prophesized Scarlet Witch, a creature capable of spontaneous creation and/or destruction who is Yin and Yang with the Phoenix Force. She can shape and manipulate this magic for a plethora of different effects, such as forming tangible constructs of energy similar to Tao Mandalas or casting spells without the need for an incantation - either verbal or tutting. Chaos Magic is explained as while most magic is a means of exploiting the rules of reality using mediums like runes/sigils, incantations or artefacts in order to manipulate universal/dimensional energies in a reliable and predictable manner but not without limitations, Chaos Magic however doesn't manipulate reality but it is reality. Reality is a "hardening" of chaos. "It's peeking inside the box to see if Schrödinger's cat is still alive". As so, when the Scarlet Witch employs chaos magic, she isn't pushing on the universal laws, she's replacing universal laws with rules of her own. Ie: instead of exploiting a loophole, Chaos Magic creates a new one, which allows for spontaneous creation that can break the law of energy conservation. A further analogy is that while most magic is like Neo, from the popular franchise of Matrix, manipulating the world, Chaos magic is like the Architect rewriting the operating system. This draws energy from the Realm of Madness - a sealed off dimension of the Multiverse and she has been compared to that of a “walking Infinity gauntlet” capable of controlling Time (her chronokinetic exploits of freezing or reversing current events), Space (teleportation and etc), Reality (reality-warping abilities), Soul (life creation & Astral projection), Mind (telepathy and telekinesis), and Power (energy manipulation). Use of Chaos Magic, under almost any degree, emits a type of relic radiation known as CMBR, a remnant from the Big Bang also produced by certain cosmic entities such as the One Below All or his children and Chthon. Such power, can be recognized through red amorphous currents of energy mixed with black vapour and occasionally static TV colours, while warping reality.
- Psionics: She has access to extremely potent and versatile abilities that are psychic in nature and rooted in psychokinetic red energy capable of a plethora of functions. These powers, like her other Chaos Magic derived abilities, manifest as amorphous formations or currents of luminescent mist or vapour coloured in a red hue emanating from her hands or body but does not possess the characteristic black vapour. Over time, the energy manifested has evolved, at first being light red showing the lack of total potency then becoming richer, brighter and more stable shaped, having more control and power, and later evolved to become a darker, richer shade of red, and more tightly controlled. At her highest, the energy manifests as her hands engulfed in a dark red flaming aura while a sphere of brighter red and compact energy hovers by her palm. When using her telepathic or telekinetic abilities, to a certain height, her irises glow a dark red colour but later her pupils will glow in tandem with her irises possibly due to power growth or actively focusing more of her magic into her mental powers. Wanda's energy signature is similar to that of the Mind Stone, given her connection to it, and her psionic energy is capable of persisting even when she is no longer actively controlling it, such as when residual energy clung to the S.W.O.R.D. drone she terminated.
- Psionic Energy Generation/Manipulation: Wanda can generate and project energy blasts, streams, waves and bolts of her own psychokinetic energy, allowing her to strike, push, pull or blow away her targets, potentially exerting enough force to destroy them. This energy manifests in any shape or form, outlining her telekinetic spheres of influence, as the energy is visible in a reddish colour. This energy can still the fast movements of her targets to improve her focus on them so she can use telekinesis to input further damage, or she can use it to rip apart the matter of her targets. Significant emotional turmoil can both amplify Maximoff’s power and cause her to lose control over it. This was most evident when after sensing her brother's death she unleashed a massive shockwave of energy in a circular radius around her that echoed in all directions, utterly obliterating everything in its path. Prior to this, her blasts were capable of launching Captain America down a staircase briefly rendering him unconscious, blasting Cap off his feet onto his back winding him, pushing Bruce Banner off of her breaking his hold and then subsequently sending him flying, project a bolt that splintered to destroy 3 Ultron Sentries in rapid succession, blast Spider-Man off his feet, send members of the Black Order hurling backwards, and due to her powers operating on a very similar sub-frequency to the Mind stone, proved capable of destabilising the structural integrity of its physical form with sustained effort whilst simultaneously holding back a 5-Infinity-Stone empowered Thanos with one arm. During the Battle of Earth, respective blasts of hers proved capable of decimating massive portions of his army and wrecking his dropships. Later, she blasted open the locked doors of SWORD headquarters, accidently use her powers to nearly suffocate the entire population of Westview (3,892) when she was overwhelmed by her emotions by conjuring bands of red energy around their necks, send Fietro hurtling, and later threw away reanimated witches from her side while she was trapped in Harkness' hallucination. Eventually, during her quest to seek her children, she fought against Kamar-Taj and they required 144 apprentices and masters of Eldritch magic to maintain a shield capable of withstanding her attacks. These attacks included a sustained torrent, splinter blasts (projectile bolts that launched other sub-attacks), and etc.
- Telekinesis: She has the ability to move, levitate and otherwise manipulate objects or people through mental influence using her psionic energy in a remote manner without the need for her energy to first be projected from her hands as her target is immediately encased in a red aura. She can use this energy to affect and control molecules, particles, as well as physical forces such as kinetic energy, friction, pressure, density, state of matter, gravity pressure, vectors, etc, granting her full control of both matter and energy. She started training this power by moving wooden blocks around while imprisoned in Strucker's secret facility, pulling them apart and suspending them in the air, removing all motion and gravity from the pieces. Her telekinesis could even affect Vibranium and even Uru as shown when she ripped out Ultron's CPU heart and broke Thanos' Uru blade in half. Wanda also used this power to stop an off-rail train in motion at Seoul, and tear apart durable Ultron Sentries easily, lift up and throw opponents, knives, Vision, and Proxima Midnight as well as draw a copious volume of gas from a building and manipulate it by spreading her telekinetic effort through every molecule of gas making it dissipate completely, and temporarily contained an explosion from a chemical bomb and lifted it away from innocents. Later, she threw cars and rubble at Iron Man, Spider-Man, and War Machine as well as suspend weapons in mid-air, hold back a collapsed Watchtower from a long distance away for a considerable period of time. She displayed great degrees of precision with her telekinesis, such as when she used it to heal Vision by telekinetically repairing his body on a molecular level. To a lesser degree, she could use this to inflict a telekinetic hold on another individual causing them to lose control of their motor functions and be immobilized. As well as, bent metal handrails to block Ultron's path, levitated multiple giant alien Threshers designed to thrash the battlefield before dropping them back down on their side at the enemy, lift 2 large pieces of debris and launch them at Thanos, hold back Thanos' sword, lift Thanos high in the air while crushing him and his armor, even hold back a Leviathan casually, rebuild part of her house after having expelled Rambeau, lifted Rambeau into the air to get her out of her house before dropping her to the ground, opened a door in S.W.O.R.D. Headquarters as well as her own home, broke the glass of a large window to access the lab where Vision's body was being disassembled and hurled a car at Agatha. During her attack on Kamar-Taj, she froze dozens of arrows from the bow of Apollon and redirected them back at the sorcerers before pulversing a tower and throwing a metal cannon into another building, collapsing another tower, unleashing a massive clear shockwave just by landing on the ground, levitated 4 sorcerers and used telekinesis to inflict pain on their bodies and later carried Wong up Mount Wundagore. She was also able to throw many Ultron Sentries at once while attacking the Illuminati Headquarters and also crushed a sentry head before lifting up Reed Richards, catching Captain Carter's shield mid air and throw it back at her, severing Carter in half. She was able to easily pull down a massive statue to crush Captain Marvel and previously threw several smaller statues at her and ripped the ground apart when duelling the Cosmic-Kree hybrid. While chasing Doctor Strange, she opened many heavy-duty locked doors made of reinforced steel, threw two tables violently apart, lifted Doctor Strange and Clarice into the air, pulled Ferguson back to her, and repel the souls of the damned. Most notably, she also used her telekinesis to destroy the Darkhold Castle, making it crumble on top of her, while using her full power to incinerate every Darkhold in the entire Multiverse.
- Disintegration: She is capable of using her telekinetic energy in such an acute way that Wanda is able to completely disintegrate objects, as she did with several Ultron Sentries after sensing her brother's death. She also used this to annihilate a Kamar-Taj sorcerer as she entered the compound and to disintegrate numerous Sling Rings.
- Flight: Wanda is able to utilise her telekinetic power to move through the air in order to simulate flight usually in the degree to hover before safely floating back to the ground. The use of this power manifests as a blast of psionic energy expelled from her hands onto the ground to propel herself up in the air, with a second blast used to slow her momentum as she approaches the ground allowing her to land safely. After her resurrection and emotional empowerment, she was able to effortlessly levitate several feet into the air while simultaneously lifting two massive pieces of rubble, no longer needing to actively project energy from her hands to levitate herself, and later flew through the air to intercept a Leviathan before it could attack Valkyrie. During her discussion with Vision, Maximoff was able to float merely by holding the psionic energy in her palms and later showed the ability again upon leaving Westview, indicating growth in her ability to fly.
- Force-Field Generation: The Scarlet Witch is able to create highly durable barriers of red energy that she can shape and manipulate as needed. She can use it to grab and break apart targets, protect others from enemy fire, contain a target or to cover and deflect attacks from enemies, such as Ultron sentries. Like any physical barrier, the barrier could be broken with extreme brute force, as the Sentries were able to eventually break it after six repeated energy blasts. During her time as an Avenger, Maximoff learned to project her energy around herself, constructing a close-to-the-body psionic armour to protect herself from extreme impacts, such as falls from great heights or blows from superhumanly strong combatants, increasing her durability to a significant level. Later, these shields could casually withstand gunfire for extended periods of time and could self-sustain without Wanda having to consciously or physically hold them up. She seemingly has automatic magical force fields that protect her from danger she cannot react to fast enough or is unaware of. These shields are powerful enough to casually withstand sustained barrage from Captain Marvel using her full binary-mode power.
- Telepathy: Due to her ability to interact mentally with others, Wanda can read minds, communicate telepathically and experience the memories and thoughts of others. She also used this ability to temporarily see into Ultron's mind whilst he was uploading his consciousness into the android body of what would later become Vision and it was thanks to this that she was able to discover his genocidal intentions and rebel against him. Wanda can also sense the minds and emotions of those around her as she could see Stark's fear in their first encounter and sensed Quicksilver's death, knowing exactly what happened to him as if she had been there in person. Given her telepathic abilities were still active inside the confines of Magic-dampening runes, it is possible that this has not been enhanced through magic or at least not always permeated with it raising the question that this might stem from her paternal mutant gene. Wanda's mental strength is strong enough to reverse the effects of the Mind Stone, one of the most powerful objects in existence, as shown when she freed Dr. Helen Cho from the stone's control. Later, she was able to fully influence the Mind Stone and force Vision to alter his density twice without his consent or any ability to resist: 1st was to release Hawkeye by becoming intangible and then intensify his density to the point where he collapsed under his own weight allowing her to blast him through dozens of stories. In fact, her telepathic abilities were only challenged by a Omega-Level mutant known as Professor Xavier though even he eventually fell prey to her might, it is also possible that Jean Grey rivals her telepathy given Grey surpasses Xavier.
- Cross-Dimensional Awareness: Due to her status as a Nexus Being, plus her innate power, she can sense the activity of interdimensional portals within her universe and others. Maximoff was able to become aware of Clarice Ferguson's presence in universe-1999 because she felt the interdimensional portal opened by her. She could also sense the location of every Darkhold throughout existence.
- Mind Control: Wanda was able to deploy a form of mental manipulation, often as a type of illusory hypnosis, using the same neuro-electric interface that is the basis of her telepathic powers. When using her power, her irises sometimes glow a dark reddish colour, especially when she concentrates it on specific targets. Wanda's reddish energy floats into the head of the victim in the form of misty neurons also distorting the victim's iris colouration, causing them to shine a dark reddish colour. During the evacuation of Sokovia, she implanted the thought of fleeing into countless individuals seemingly numbering in the dozens though likely hundreds. Post Endgame, she was able to accidentally take control of nearly four thousand minds at once and control them effortlessly with auto-planned routines for a prolonged time frame in addition to having erased the memory of Westview from anyone who had previously visited as known friends and relatives of missing people trapped in Westview were unable to remember them. While attacking Kamar-Taj, she was able to manipulate a sorcerers mind and promptly command him to run. This made him follow her commands and run away from his post, leaving the force-field vulnerable to attack. While in her alternate self's body, Wanda used her mind control abilities to make Clarice open a portal to throw Strange and Palmer into an unknown universe and to open a portal back to herself in timeline 1999. According to Strange, this power may be so advanced that at Wanda's peak, she could enslave the multiverse.
- Dreamwalking (limited): She has the ability to project her own consciousness across dimensions from her home universe into another before possessing the body of an alternate self. Playing puppeteer, using this unholy doppelganger, she pursue enemies from afar. She has complete control over the body of her counterpart and can use it in any way she pleases but does require devoted effort to subdue the original occupant. However, the possession is not a permanent link between realities and required a functional Darkhold or Darkhold castle. While the laws of dreamwalking state that upon possessing a variant's body, they cannot access their original universe's powers, the Scarlet Witch was able to transfer a small amount of Chaos Magic into her alternate self and then reclaim it once the possession ends. When she dreamwalks, a ghostly distortion occurs near her alternate self including flickering lights, pictures coming to life, gusts of wind, vertigo, and a reflection of her true body on a reflective surface. The process is quite painful for her multiversal variant.
- Emotional Manipulation: With her mental powers, Maximoff often used it in order to elicit fear or emotional pain in a person in the form of nightmarish hallucinations that could stun and weaken even an individual as powerful as Thor. These visions can depict things that a person fears, regrets, or general disturbances, though the nature of it is not up to Wanda as she freely admitted she has no control over it yet could still enter the dream to view it.
- Astral Projection: She has the ability to separate her astral body from her physical body in order to project it out as an intangible construct with access to another dimension of space and time. Unlike traditional astral projection, she was able to peculiarly project her consciousness into a visible form capable of using Chaos Magic without losing consciousness in her true body, a feat even Doctor Strange was incapable of. This subsequently means that she can safely astral project indefinitely as psychopomps will not mistake her actual body for deceased given it is still active.
- Astral Suggestions: The Scarlet Witch was able to put thoughts into people's minds, while in astral form, through whispers that cannot be physically heard, but still the thoughts will be put into the victim's mind who then believes that it is their original thoughts. She once used this in combat to infiltrate Kamar-Taj's shields and mind control a young sorcerer to run and cause confusion and to scout the compound to see where Doctor Strange was.
- Energy Absorption: She displayed the ability to absorb the power of another witch such as Agatha Harkness which greatly intensifies her own level of strength as she simply converts whatever magic she absorbs into Chaos Magic. Unlike Harkness, who has no choice but to absorb life force in order to absorb magic from other Witches, Wanda is capable of absorbing magic and similar energy without killing her target through unknown mechanics but likely due to Chaos Magic basically existing outside the laws of Magic. Later, she was able to almost fully absorb Clarice Ferguson's mutant powers twice had she not been interrupted by Doctor Strange. During the fight with the Illuminati, Wanda completely absorbed Captain Marvel's cosmic energy, leaving her completely vulnerable to any attack, which she ultimately used to kill her by dropping a statue on her. When capturing Clarice, Dr. Strange tried to attack her, but she absorbed his power and repelled it back with such power that it managed to destroy the Book of Vishanti.
- Corruption: When Wong turned Tao Mandalas into many shurikens and launched them at her, Wanda corrupted them with Chaos Magic turning them red and sending the projectiles flying back with more power. Later, she corrupted Strange's Seven Suns of Cinnibus spell and sent it back at the sorcerer with far more power than it originally had.
- Summoning: Using the Darkhold, Wanda learned how she could summon beings from other dimensions, most notably Hell, being able to use chaotic witchcraft to summon powerful demons like the Ribboned One and Gargantos to go after Clarice Ferguson. These demons are completely under her control and lose their free will, being slaves to her desires.
- Power Bestowal: The Scarlet Witch has displayed the ability to grant superhuman abilities to others, either directly or indirectly. She is the reason her brother Pietro survived exposure to the Mind Stone which allowed him to realize his own mutant nature and also birthed two children with incredible power; William with psionics/magic and Tommy with speed respectively mirroring that of Wanda and Pietro.
- Reality Warping: Maximoff can warp reality by altering molecular polarity and the laws of nature, allowing her numerous other capabilities which initially began on a small scale, however, as time progressed, her reality altering powers have grown exponentially. She can also create forcefield domed zones where reality seems to correspond toward Wanda's every subconscious thought or desire as well as react to her negative emotions being essentially omnipotent within. The areas are surrounded by a partially invisible hexagonal force field and appear normal from the outside unless struck by force. Using this ability, she was able to take control of Westview, a small town of 3,892, by placing what is referred to as the Hex around it. The rewrite occurs on the molecular level, meaning her powers allow her to manipulate molecules and the reality of Westview within the Hex was theorised by Agatha to be maintained by a simultaneous series of complex illusions, mind control and transmutation spells, done on a massive scale and acting automatically without conscious thought or need to maintain it. Due to this terminating various essential requirements, Agatha Harkness described it as "magic on autopilot". This is so advanced that it can create solid matter out of thin air breaking the universal law that states energy cannot be created nor destroyed - only converted from one form of energy to another. As evidenced by recreating Vision in a newly constructed Vibranium body with the Mind Stone and how she created her house as well as her wedding rings - though she may have solidified Chaos Magic into firm matter similar to Daniel Ketch. After gaining more control of her power by transforming into the Scarlet Witch and unlocking her true potential, she was able to make the Hex disappear completely, reversing the changes it caused to everything and everyone that were still inside by absorbing the energy she expended to create it thus empowering her with more strength than she had when it was still active. When trapped in the Mirror Dimension, she warped the borders to make it liquid in order to punch her hand through and grab victims through reflections in the room. She then crawled out of a gong, warping her body to do so and then repaired herself. When attacking the Illuminati, she incapacitated Black Bolt by erasing his mouth and ripped Reed Richards apart into string-like pieces. She could also use this at one of its highest intensities to eradicate every Darkhold and Darkhold castle in the entire multiverse.
- Conjuration: She was able to conjure matching rings for her and Vision as well as create entire outfits, flowers, a dog collar, a small crane, drinks, and even an entire house filled with items.
- Life Creation: Without any effort, Wanda made herself pregnant with twin boys and previously used her magic to accidentally restore Vision to life while in the process creating Vibranium as well as even a replica of the Mind Stone that possessed the same base powers and energy signature. She later conjured a pet dog out of thin air and a stork by accident. All of her living creations possessed a soul but were described as partial.
- Illusion Manipulation: Wanda could cast and perform illusions of high definition with extreme realism that was even able to trick an experienced witch-like, Agatha Harkness. After a brief discussion with Doctor Strange, she revealed that her farm was fake and they were actually standing in a fiery, burnt down, red-wood field. The apple tree field was so intricately cast that Doctor Strange could smell all the scents in perfect detail. Wanda has also demonstrated to use this in order to create and shape holograms to entertain or to help her explain about any event or incident better.
- Time Manipulation: The Scarlet Witch can, with some effort, control the passage of time for the world around her with the range of at least a city. This includes reversing the timeline, causing a chicken to reverse into an egg, and even stopping time completely. At the beginning, this unknowingly manifested as self-chronokinesis, walking up to people she mind controls at an enhanced pace or walking backwards rapidly as well as reacting to automatic gunfire, explosions, knives thrown at her or others, etc, as she would perceive the world in a slowed down pace. She was even able to turn around and grab onto Tommy's hand despite him speedrunning when he was a ten year old at a pace she referred to as "breaking the sound barrier".
- Teleportation: Wanda is capable of transporting herself and others from one location in the universe to another without physically inhabiting the space in between. When she does so, a trail of red smoke is left behind in her wake before shortly dissipating. However, she cannot teleport across the multiverse into another universe.
- Transmutation: When fighting Thanos' army, she caused multiple Outriders to collapse into liquid as they dissolved through a mere hand movement. This was one of her first displays of Chaos magic. Wanda was later able to change her dress, transformed a real piano into a fake cardboard cutout, turned her and Vision's beds into a single bed, brought color to Westview and also brought fake butterflies on mobile to life. Wanda also brought a Stork to life accidentally and was unable to remove it. As her mental stability deteriorated, she further lost control of her surroundings and began to inadvertently change objects in her home into versions from previous sitcom eras. Wanda also can transform herself from her civilian clothes to her Scarlet Witch uniform and back at will manifesting as a wave of rough red energy flowing over her body.
- Elemental Control: Wanda is capable of manipulating the elemental forces of the world around her, similar to Thor but can command any and every element she chooses.
- Weather Manipulation: She was able to summon vast wind from outside her house to dry wet clothing and when enraged by Agatha, she caused the sun to go down while inside the Hex, clouds to cover the sky, summoned a thunderstorm, and et cetera. When she invaded Kamar-Taj, she conjured massive black clouds to signal her arrival and later dismissed them effortlessly.
- Fire Manipulation: She is capable of generating flames and manipulating fire as shown when she rekindled dying embers with a snap of her hand and lit several candles effortlessly. At the Scarlet Witch Castle on Mount Wundagore, she ignited multiple fires in cauldrons to light up the dark palace. Additionally, she burned the body Doctor Strange was dream walking into therefore incapacitating him for a while.
- Electricity Manipulation: While paling in comparison to Thor, Wanda is still capable of generating and manipulating electrical forces as demonstrated by turning lights and appliances on and off, various power surges, and even sending taser-like shocks through touch.
- Water Manipulation: When giving birth, the Scarlet Witch made a washing machine overflow, turned taps on, and caused water pipes to burst.
- Probability Field Manipulation: From a young age Wanda was able to cast probability Hexes with no training, using one such hex to prevent the detonation of a missile for two days due to the self-preservational survival instinct.
- Magic Negation: By casting a series of runes, she can neutralise the Magic of potentially any other magic-user rendering them powerless so long as they are within range of the runes.
- Conjuration: She was able to conjure matching rings for her and Vision as well as create entire outfits, flowers, a dog collar, a small crane, drinks, and even an entire house filled with items.
Abilities[]
- Gifted Intellect: Maximoff was able to learn and replicate Agatha Harkness' Teleportation and Protection Spell Casting just by seeing it once.
- Expert Combatant: Maximoff was originally a poor fighter, having no combat skills or formal training. However, with years of experience, she developed a fighting style in which she would infuse her psionic energy into her hands to greatly enhance her hand-to-hand combat skills and allow her to parry attacks from bladed weapons without suffering any harm due to her psionic energy protecting her hands from damage. Her combat instincts were also honed to the point she could react to and halt an explosion, parry attacks from Proxima Midnight, and catch Thanos' double-edged sword moments before it could strike her.
- Skilled Spy: Given that she was on the run from the government like her teammates, Maximoff was taught strategies to hide in plain sight by Black Widow, such as masking her thick Eastern European accent with an American one.
- Multilingualism: Maximoff is fluent in her native Sokovian and English. She initially spoke English with a heavy Sokovian accent, and although it had slightly faded by the time of the attack on the IFID Headquarters, Black Widow taught her how to speak with a convincing American accent by the time of the Attack on Vision. Maximoff could also speak some Spanish.
Threat Level[]
Likely Galaxy level - comparable to her child William and rivals Celestials. Possibly higher, she is said to be a divine pairing with the Phoenix Force with one representing creation (Wanda) and the other representing destruction (Jean). However, the representations may be interchangeable as they are both stated to hold great potential in either category and it is rather dependent on their will, desires, or actions.
At most low multiverse level - proven to be one of the most powerful and dangerous individuals throughout the vast infinity, stated to be capable of destroying entire universes, claimed to be capable of mind controlling all sentient life everywhere, and Chthon believes they could rule the multiverse together. The prophecy also foretold that her actions will affect every universe in existence. She proved capable of incinerating every Darkhold and Scarlet Witch temple throughout the infinite Multiverse, with the Darkhold stated to be almost-indestructible physically.
Range[]
Multiversal - Wanda was able to summon and control demonic monsters even when not in the same universe as them physically and could use them to hunt down her enemies. Was able to destroy every Darkhold in the multiverse, demonstrating her power can reach infinite universes at once.
Power Potential[]
Infinite - Was able to destroy an infinite amounts of Darkholds, which required infinite energy, and could destroy or recreate Infinity Stones on a whim which embody a fundamental aspect of the universe and possessed limitless power. Easily able to destroy Uru and Vibranium, two of three of the most durable elements in the multiverse.
Durability[]
High - Unaffected by the ammunition of a magic enhanced cannon fired at high velocity at her with no shields up. Resistant to fire and was barely affected by Clarice Ferguson's punches which shook an entire mountain and was said to carry the weight of the universe rather than her own mass x acceleration strength.
Attack Potency[]
Street level, physically, - Was trained in hand-to-hand combat by Black Widow and is physically superior to the average human of her size and weight. At least Building level. Likely Large Island level+, with powers, - Capable of restraining Vision and sending him through several floors, casually tore out Vibranium Ultron's core. Single-handedly pushed back Thanos with an energy blast for a considerable amount of time while destroying the Mind Stone at the same time, despite Thanos shielding himself with a barrier from the Space Stone, with the Titan even breathing heavily attempting to overpower her. Later, in Endgame, she severely overwhelmed Thanos again, destroying his Uru sword and armor, causing him to call in bombardment out of fear, and would have otherwise killed him. Capable of destroying the Mind Stone, as her powers are of a comparable level to the Stone's own. At least Small Town Level, of 3.76 km², - When she took over Westview. Capable of outgunning an entire US Governmental Department of space exploration and defense, SWORD. Superior to Agatha Harkness in raw power. Possibly planet level - Agatha mentioned how she is destined to destroy the world, a surface area of 510.1 million km².
Unknown - Has grown exponentially in power after discovering her identity as the Scarlet Witch and studying the Darkhold being much more powerful than before during the Westview Anomaly. Proved herself stronger than the Sorcerer Supreme, making her stronger than any sorcerer of the Masters of the Mystic Arts, with Strange himself admitting he had no way of fighting her. It required the combined might of 144 Eldritch sorcerers to defend from her attacks, albeit, temporarily with her able to eventually break through and easily slaughter most of them. Could easily destroy the interdimensional serpent dragons that Strange conjured, and casually knocked out Wong. Even possessing a less powerful version of herself incapable of using her full power, she easily defeated Dr. Strange and the Illuminati, including an alternate version of Captain Marvel, who was helpless to do anything to stop her. Easily overpowered a variant of herself.
Telekinetic Lifting Strength[]
High - Lifted part of an airport control tower casually. Lifted several giant alien machines and hurled them back down on their side. Pushed Thanos away, and he had trouble walking through her energy blasts. Later, in Endgame, Thanos was completely overpowered by her telekinesis and was being slowly crushed. Lifted huge boulders and threw them at Thanos. Broke Thanos' Nidavellir-forged Uru shield using her telekinesis and ripped through his armor made of the same. Was able to effortlessly lift a massive castle of Dark Magic high into the air and throw it down again, decimating a mountain, with 10^12-10^15 Kilograms of force.
Reaction Speed[]
Fluctuates, she can increase her reaction and movement speed via her self-chronokinesis. Subsonic speed - Able to easily catch up to a Super Soldier after propelling herself from the ground to keep up with the others. Massively Hypersonic combat speed and reactions - Blocked an explosion. Stopped Black Panther's attack on the Winter Soldier at the last second. Subsonic movement speed with Sub-Relativistic combat speed and reactions - Can keep up with and react to Thanos, a Titan-Deviant Hybrid. Kept up in combat with alternate versions of Captain Marvel and Captain Carter.
FTL - Could instantly react to Captain Marvel's photon blasts which move at the speed of light i.e; 299 792 458 m / s.
Weaknesses[]
Wanda is, like most beings, vulnerable to magic such as the runic protection spell that rendered her near powerless. Furthermore, powerful sorcerers or witches could prove a challenge mostly because of her limited knowledge of how Chaos Magic works.
Despite all her psychic and mystical strength, Wanda is still human and can die a mortal death such as by blunt force trauma, poison, and presumably old age. It is unknown if she could eliminate the possibility of a mundane death by warping reality.
Chaos magic is largely dependent on its user's mental state is at its highest when experiencing pain, anger, confidence, etc but at its weakest when experiencing self-doubt or depression. Additionally, her powers are mostly reliant on movement and focus, which means her enemies or opponents can stop her from using her powers by disrupting her concentration or by restricting her movement. This was taken advantage of when she was held on the Raft as was forced to wear a straight jacket to keep her subdued and prevent her from using her powers and a sonic cannon aimed directly at her could disable Wanda.
A higher being with superior cosmic power could likely overpower and kill the Scarlet Witch but few entities are known to surpass raw Chaos Magic. Notable deities capable of such a feat are One Above All, the Primordial Entities (likely), all six Infinity Stones united, likely Dormammu, et cetera.
