―Rick Sheridan[src]

Richard "Rick" Sheridan is a student studying film at New York University. One night, while in his sleep, a member of the Sleepwalkers, dream police who apprehend any beings that invade the sleeping minds of humans, appeared & confronted Sheridan in his dreams. Frightened, Sheridan seemingly killed the Sleepwalker by tearing off his Imaginator. Guilt-stricken & wishing to make it up to the Sleepwalker, Sheridan took the Imaginator as his own & became a Sleepwalker himself, taking it upon himself to help mankind by getting rid of their nightmares.

Biography[]

Early Life[]

Childhood Dreams[]

Rick Sheridan grew up with his parents William & Florence Sheridan & his little sister Leah in Kirtland, Ohio. Growing up, Rick was obsessed with movies & thus dreamed of making or even being in movies himself one day. He recalled watching the movie First Blood as a child, much to the disapproval of his parents.

Pursuing his Dreams[]

After graduating high school, Rick decided to leave home & move to New York to pursue a career in filmmaking. Even though Rick left, his parents & little sister were still a big part of his life. Rick eventually found a place to live, rent-free, in the building of Mr. Epstein & Mrs. Epstein as long as he would be the superintendent for the building. While in New York, Rick adopted a Mexican hairless dog whom he named Rambo after the titular protagonist in the Rambo franchise.

While studying at New York University, Rick found a girlfriend in Alyssa Conover, a fellow student who was also pursuing a career in filmmaking.

Becoming a Sleepwalker[]

One night, a Sleepwalker was tricked by a fellow Sleepwalker known as Cobweb into entering the mind of Rick while he was sleeping & became trapped.

After a few confrontations in Rick's dreams, Rick reacted by tearing off the Sleepwalker's Imaginator (a badge-like device worn by Sleepwalkers used to teleport around their home plane, the Mindscape). Without his Imaginator, the Sleepwalker disintegrated & seemingly perished in front of Rick.

Rick awoke from his sleep to find the Imaginator in his hand. Guilt-stricken & wishing to make it up to the Sleepwalker, Sheridan took the Imaginator as his own & became a Sleepwalker himself, taking it upon himself to help mankind by getting rid of their nightmares.

Confronting Sleepwalker[]

"You didn’t really think I was gone, did you?"
"I-I thought I killed you!"
"No, Richard... I've been trapped in that mind of yours since then.

Sleepwalker & Rick[src]

Upon returning to his apartment, Rick was greeted by his beloved dog Rambo. The moment Rick asked if Rambo had been a good boy while he was gone, he accidentally stepped on some dog waste. Assuming he had been gone for a long time, Rick pardoned Rambo's actions & went to the bathroom to clean his shoe. As he was cleaning his shoe, Rick's head began to hurt & he started hearing voices. Believing it was a migraine, Rick went to the sink & took a couple of ibuprofen. After taking a drink of water, Rick was horrified to see an eerie grotesque-looking figure in his reflection in the mirror. The figure asked Rick if he really thought he was gone. Realizing the figure to be the Sleepwalker in his dreams, Rick said he thought he killed him when he took his Imaginator, but Sleepwalker simply told him that he had been trapped in his mind ever since then. He then told Rick that Cobweb was still out there & that they needed to stop him. Suddenly, Rick heard Rambo barking & he went into the living room to see what was going on. He was soon shocked to find a portal in the living room. When Rick stepped closer to investigate, he was mysteriously pulled into the portal, with Rambo jumping in after him just before the portal closed.

Personality[]

Powers & Abilities[]

Powers[]

  • Superhuman Strength: Sleepwalker is powerful enough to lift & throws cars. His strength allows him to juggle cars with occupants with one arm. Like with his other abilities, it increases when he absorbs mental energies.
  • Superhuman Durability: Sleepwalker is highly resistant to physical injury. He is capable of withstanding crushing force from a fallen building, grenade blasts, falls from great heights, & powerful energy blasts without sustaining injury.
  • Superhuman Reflexes: Sleepwalker's reflexes are such that he can catch a knife in his fingers & individually warp multiple bullets from an Uzi.
  • Superhuman Stamina: Sleepwalker's body produces no fatigue toxins, granting him almost untiring physical stamina in all activities; his stamina is limited only by how much mental energy he contains. He doesn't need sleep & is immune to attacks that would render him, or take effect when, unconscious. This proves his race to the powers of even beings like Nightmare. In places that are filled with mental energy like the Mindscape, he has essentially unlimited stamina.
  • Superhuman Vision: Sleepwalker possesses eyes that could see greater than human limits, spotting one unusual vehicle in the city from high in the atmosphere. He can see & track something as small & fast as supersonic bullets; can see & recognize various energies & can track them, including the energies from his own Warp Gaze; can even see otherwise invisible beings like astral projections & spirits. While he can analyze the structure of snow & manipulate air molecules, Sleepwalker may also be able to see at the microscopic level.
  • Warp Gaze: His only offensive power, with this vision-based power, Sleepwalker could alter the shape of physical objects & twist them to his purposes. Sleepwalker initially demonstrated this power by using it to distort a sidewalk to capture a criminal.

He has stated that in the Mindscape, his control is even finer & as sharp as a scalpel.

With the exception of those that nullify his powers, the composition of the materials that he warps makes no difference in the ease that he can warp, freely manipulating both air & reinforced steel equally. He also used this ability once on air molecules to create a wind tunnel for faster aerial travel.

While Sleepwalker can use the Warp Gaze directly on a living being, he has sworn an oath to avoid doing so because of the mental trauma it induces. Exceptions can be made in certain situations such as lethal threats, possession, & on extra-dimensional beings.

When using the Warp Gaze on a possessed person, it acts to force out the possessing entity. It also reveals the true nature & banishes extra-dimensional beings like demons.

  • Flight: Sleepwalker has a flotation-like flight that can let him travel fast enough to chase down a car. He can increase this speed by forming a wind tunnel with his warp gaze.
  • Regenerative Healing Factor: Sleepwalker can heal from practically any injury by absorbing mental energy. He can absorb mental energy whenever he returns to his host or to the Mindscape. This allows him to recover from otherwise fatal injuries such as getting crushed by a wrecking ball & having his throat slashed open.
  • Mental Power Amplifier: As a denizen of the Mindscape Sleepwalker can enhance mental powers from psionics & magic alike by his mere presence. Doctor Strange's mental magic is similarly enhanced simply by having Sleepwalker nearby.
  • Mental Energy Absorption: By absorbing the energy from mental attacks, he can increase his energy level. He may also absorb it from others' minds & with the use of a Mindrake.

Abilities[]

  • Expert Filmaker:
  • Expert Combatant: Sleepwalker has encountered a multitude of enemies with varying abilities both in Mindscape & Earth. This allows him to react immediately in a dangerous situation & is rarely surprised when encountering unusual enemies. He has used power lines & electric appliances against his enemies. He is also very creative in the use of his Warp Gaze: creating disguises, forming aerial messages, repairing structures, & a tool for psychological warfare.
  • Extra-Dimensional Knowledge: While he is ignorant of many regular matters, he has shown extensive knowledge of the Mindscape & whatever traverses it.
  • Mindscape Weapons Knowledge: Despite not carrying it, he has deep knowledge of weapons such as the Mindrake, knowing that it doesn't kill immediately.
  • Language Assimilation: Whenever Sleepwalker enters the mind of someone who speaks another language, like French or German, he is quick to learn & use that language when conversing with them.

Weaknesses[]

  • Flight Ceiling: The further he floated from the ground, the weaker he would get. He has even traveled to another planet with no ill effects. As he was surprised when he first discovered this, it can be presumed that this weakness doesn't exist when he is in the Mindscape.
  • Light Addiction (developed later): An addiction to certain types of light from a synthetic diamond. This addiction became so overwhelming that Sleepwalker would fall into a temporary coma.
