Personality[]

Prior to his life-changing car accident, Stephen had a massive ego that heavily influenced his medical career as he only took on patients that he believed would help benefit his status, even refusing to operate on a U.S. army colonel's back despite being skilled enough to and his justification was "so is fifty other people". He was also incredibly materialistic and had a taste for the finer things in life as he owned a Lamborghini, a collection of Rolex watches, and a luxury apartment among others. However, this changed after the car accident, which left him a broken man, albeit also one extremely determined to heal himself, notably standing outside of Kamar-Taj's front door for five hours straight after being initially thrown out. He is also full of ambition, arrogance, and stubbornness but also a voice of reason and logic.

Following his ascension to the role of Master of the Mystic Arts, Strange gradually became more selfless - apologizing for his past treatment of Christine Palmer and showing a new-found trust in former rival, Nicodemus West - and heroic - demonstrated by his willingness to sacrifice himself dozens if not hundreds of times over to keep Dormammu from merging Earth with the Dark Dimension subsequently saving billions of lives.

Stephen is unafraid of conflict, as when cornered by the Zealots, he continued to fight the more experienced sorcerers with all his training, and later on confronted Kaecilius himself in combat. He has little problem with murder so long as it is for the greater good.

As the Sorcerer Supreme, he recognised he had higher duties such as protecting the Time Stone and was willing to defend the Infinity Stone at any cost even at the price of his fellow heroes' lives or his own. Although, once he saw that the only way to save half of the universe and defeat Thanos, Stephen gave up the stone without hesitation to save Tony Stark's life thereby dooming himself. Strange has shown great respect for his fellow sorcerers and superheroes for their selflessness in protecting everyone in the world.

Physical Appearance[]

Stephen appears as a very physically handsome man in his mid-late thirties or possibly forties with short, slightly curly black hair, blue-grey-green eyes that suffer from sectoral heterochromia, a smooth face that is clean-shaven and an athletic body build. He has a distinctive scent of Bergamot, Mandarin Orange and Mint with notes of Geranium, Sandalwood and Patchouli.

Powers and Skills[]

Powers[]

  • Neus Being Enhanced Master Sorcerer: Stephen exists as a "nexus being" for Earth 1999, along with Loki and The Scarlet Witch, meaning he acts as a release valve and focal point for the convergence of the universe's ambient esoteric energies and is a keystone of the Multiverse as he is crucial to its ultimate coherence and stability. Nexus Beings like Stephen also have a connection to the Infinity Stones according to lore and can supplement them if need be, with Stephen having a connection to the Time Stone. When he initially started practicing sorcery, Strange managed to pick up and master many of the order's spells at a faster rate than any other student and was given access to the deeper sections of Kamar-Taj's library which is normally reserved for master-level sorcerers after seeing how quickly he absorbed their collection of texts. This is attributed to Strange's refusal to follow the rules, instead preferring to teach himself. Indeed, an impressed Wong claimed that Strange's prodigious skills meant that he was "born for the mystic arts" and the Ancient One herself noted that Strange has tremendous potential as a sorcerer, believing that he would outshine even herself one day: "Meant to be the best of us". During the infinite period he spent trapped in a time loop with Dormammu, Strange acquired even greater mastery over his craft and later gained even greater skill after living 14 million alternate timelines about Thanos' campaign, proving capable of single-handedly combating the Titan's expert use of the Infinity Gauntlet more effectively than the Guardians of the Galaxy and even Iron Man. As the Sorcerer Supreme and Guardian of the New York Sanctum, Doctor Strange possesses an exceptionally high level of mastery over mystic forces which he uses to defend his native reality of Earthen-dimension 1999 of the 'Sacred Timeline'. Strange's mastery of the occult means he can tap into and harness mystical energies harnessed from other 'adjacent' dimensions of the Multiverse as well as ambient universal power in order to accomplish a wide range of fantastical effects. With the death of the Ancient One, Doctor Strange is currently the most powerful member of the Masters of the Mystic Arts surpassing all other members despite the relatively short time he has been studying in comparison. Indeed, he is one of the most powerful individuals on Earth and one of the most potent magic users throughout the cosmos indeed capable of competing with the likes of The Scarlet Witch, despite her superior raw power and law-defying chaos magic.
    • Astral Projection: Considered an advanced form of magic, at least for a beginner, he struggled to achieve this state and spent a few months studying before finally mastering this skill. As so, Stephen is capable of separating his astral form from his corporal body, gaining access to the Astral Dimension, and can therefore traverse the physical plane as an intangible and generally invisible spirit but cannot maintain his consciousness while doing so, unlike the Scarlet Witch. Later, he learned the Ancient One's technique and was able to forcibly push Spiderman's astral form out of his body, albeit temporarily.
    • Telekinesis: Strange has the ability to influence both objects and people through sheer mental focus and accompanying hand gestures. While nowhere near the Scarlet Witch's level, he has nevertheless showcased some noteworthy feats such as being able to take control of a bus in mid-air and pull it apart before throwing one of the doors toward a demon with enough force to sever its tentacle and then put the bus crudely back together seconds before slamming it into the demon. On lesser notes, he was able to use this to psionically take away his Sling Ring from Ned, and the Macchina di Kadavus from MJ. He was also able to use his telekinesis to tie his tie as well as manipulate dozens of bricks and levitate others to suspend them hanging in the air.
    • Eldritch Magic Manipulation: Stephen is able to shape, control and otherwise manipulate Eldritch Magic, forming tangible constructs of fiery vibrant orange energy as well as cast spells by writing specific formations with the energy. He typically channels the dimensional energy of various extra-dimensional entities usually the same three divine groups including; the Vishanti (Agamotto, Hoggoth, and Oshtur), the Octessence (Ikonn, Ikthalon, Balthakk, Watoomb, Farallah, Raggadorr, Cyttorak, and Valtorr) and various other deities such as the Faltine, the Seraphim, the Principalities, among others.
      • Construct Generation: He can conjure fiery lines of orange energy that he can use as whips or lassos for combat that constantly emit sparks, evoking a serrated appearance, and can be commonly used to restrain a target. Furthermore, he can form bulkier eldritch chains that are stronger and can also cast a spell called the Crimson Bands of Cyttorak as shown during the Battle of Titan which manifested as dark red metallic bands strong enough to restrain Thanos' hand so he couldn't use the power of the Infinity Gauntlet for a considerable period of time. Strange can use Eldritch fiery energy to form holographic Mandalas called 'Tao Mandalas' which are religious and magical symbols used as shields or melee weapons. These mandalas could also be used as floating platforms for himself and his allies to walk upon. Through the Sword of Vishanti, Stephen can conjure a scimitar sword of pure orange energy that he can choose whether to solidify into a cooled silver metal. The Ruby Rings of Raggadorr spell conjures layered Tao Mandalas that are stronger and size-adjustable. Through the defensive might of the Seraphim, Stephen can surround himself and his allies with a shield that protects him from physical and magical damage, even able to reflect attacks back at the opponent if he so wishes. Strange has additionally formed a rapidly rotating saw construct in mid-air capable of cleanly slicing through a steel bus thrown at him.
      • Illusion Manipulation: By casting the Images of Ikonn, during the Battle of Titan, Strange was able to create dozens of realistic copies of himself to attack Thanos. All of whom appeared to share his soul/aura and therefore could perform feats of magic while being tethered to the original Stephen. He also disguised the Time Stone as a star in the night sky.
      • Energy Projection: With outside assistance applying an electrical charge onto his body, while astral projecting, he becomes "supercharged" and is then capable of releasing omnidirectional bursts of orange energy that can banish other souls in the Astral realm. By performing the Bolts of Balthakk, Strange can fire vast torrented bolts of fiery energy by calling upon a demonic fiend: 'Balthakk', this spell also has a chain-like effect being able to ricochet. By performing; "Seven Suns of Cinnabus", he could fire a concentrated beam of intense plasma energy drawn from the seven suns of a parallel dimension known as Cinnabus.
      • Matter Conjuration: He was able to make an umbrella stand appear in front of Thor for him to put down Mjølnir, which had been disguised as an umbrella, as well as made a teacup appear in Thor's hand. He also conjured two glowing copies of his own hands to grab onto a pole and use it as a weapon to thrust through a demon.
        • Transmutation: During his meeting with Thor, he was able to turn a cup of tea into a large mug of beer that was also able to magically refill itself. He can also sleekly alter the molecular format of his normal civilian clothing to become his Masters of the Mystic Arts robe. The most powerful feat of his in this regard was using the Hoary Hosts of Hoggoth spell during the Battle of Titan to transform an expanding singularity sent by Thanos into multitudes of living butterflies, impressing the Mad Titan.
      • Teleportation (limited): Strange, while in the New York Sanctum, was able to transport himself and Thor around the building with ease, which was heavily disorienting to the Asgardian. Unlike most of his magic, this required a verbal component: "Faran!", which invoked Farallah causing a brief flash of orange light enveloping himself and those he brings along with him.
      • Intangibility: Strange was also able to render himself intangible by surrounding himself in a ethereal aura of Eldritch yellow-orange magic to effortlessly escape the Kamar-Taj dungeon.
      • Enchantment: He was capable of manipulating and imbuing Peter Parker's nano-tech web-shooters with enough Eldritch Magic to enable firing at least five webs able to teleport whatever struck by it into the Masters of the Mystic Arts dungeon.
      • Location: He was able to scan a piece of Thor's hair causing it to glow with fiery orange energy, briefly conjuring Odin's symbol in the process, to aid in forming a portal that would take him to Odin. Essentially, the spell created a psychic image of Odin's location allowing him to use that image to open a Sling Ring portal.
      • Warding: He can protect both objects, people, and locations by placing a magical veil over them making it seemingly impossible to enter, touch, or harm unless the spell was removed, even if he were killed. However, sufficiently powerful Magic such as that of Wanda Maximoff's would eventually break through regardless.
      • Elemental Manipulation: He was able to access the power of Aerokinesis by casting the Winds of Watoomb which manifested a radiant wave of clear golden wind that cleared the street of smoke and debris after the Black Order’s Q-Ship landed in the city, while also stopping the destructive windstorm the ship was causing. The same spell was also utilised to manipulate an incoming avalanche of water in order to safely form a water tornado before dispersing it. Through the Icy Tendrils of Ikthalon spell, a combination of earth and ice manipulation, Strange opened up numerous chasms in the earth, producing glowing blue-purple tendrils of cyrokinetic energy that wrapped around its targets and forcefully lifted up Thanos' soldiers into the air before dragging them into the ground and resealing thus vanishing. Additionally, he is able to conjure mystical green fireballs and throw them at targets as well as cause a massive demon to spontaneously combust into green flames burning its skin.
      • Summoning: Strange could summon extra-dimensional beings to fight in his place or to aid himself in combat. Notably, he conjured an array of fire-breathing serpents to fight against the Scarlet Witch, though they were no match.
      • Memory Erasal: Through the Runes of Kauf Kaul, Stephen can perform what he refers to as a "standard memory erase spell" but is in fact a high-tier ritual capable of removing the memory of a person's identity from the collective totality of everyone on the planet in addition to all physical evidence such as photos and such.
    • Mirror Dimension Magic Manipulation: After his training at Kamar-Taj, Doctor Strange was able to manipulate magical energy harnessed from the Mirror Dimension for a variety of vitrikinetic effects. He can use this parallel dimension to train, surveil others and even contain threats. Like the astral plane, the Mirror Dimension occupies the same physical space as the material world yet is completely imperceptible and self-contained.
      • Dimensional Warping: Strange was notably able to access the Mirror Dimension and transport himself, Wong, and the Zealots within the parallel reality with ease. While in his astral form, he can create a Mirror gateway to make his incorporeal form visible to others. Additionally, Strange was also capable of conjuring a construct of the Mirror Dimension in the form of crystalline fractals that acted as a shield, absorbing an energy beam from the Power Stone, and was also able to send the fractals at Thanos. He was able to trap the Scarlet Witch in the Mirror Dimension for a short time before she used her reality warping to break free through the reflections.
      • Reality Warping (limited): During his confrontation with Spiderman, within the Mirror Dimension, he was shown to manipulate the realm's perception of reality in a manner similar to the Zealots without drawing upon Dormammu indicating his power grew to the point where it matched their Dark-Dimension enhanced Eldritch magic.

Equipment[]

Sling Ring 1
  • Sling Ring: Strange utilises a standard mystical item given to every Master of the Mystic Arts that is made from an enchanted gold alloy which enables him to perform the following;
    • Portal Creation - Using a Sling Ring, Stephen is able to open portals that lead to different locations, gaining the ability to both move across the material world and to other parts of the Multiverse. In addition, he can make portals small enough to reach through and grab things, such as several books from the Sanctum’s library or to exchange one object for another. There seem to be no limits to the distance Strange can reach with this power going up to even millions of light-years.
      • Interdimensional Travel - Using the same Sling Ring, Strange can travel between different dimensions of the Multiverse, crossing over different planes of existence or traveling across various forms of reality.

  • Cape of Levitation: An enchanted relic that, under its own sentience, chose Doctor Strange to be its one and only wielder. It has been described to be extremely stubborn and picky as it was surprising for it to have chosen a master. It's main power is described below but offensively the cloak has the ability to grab, lift, tackle or send enemies flying through the air by flying without Strange.
    • Flight - Using the Cloak of Levitation, Strange is able to levitate, hover, and fly without wind. The Cloak can greatly lessen the impact of falling from great heights by effortlessly reducing his speed.
Eye of Agamotto 1
Eye of Agamotto 2
  • Eye of Agamotto: An ancient relic created by the Sorcerer Agamotto thousands of years ago that possesses a number of mystical properties most notably time manipulation due to being the container of the Time Stone. After the October 2023 Blip, it no longer contains the Time Stone but has been repaired and reinvigorated with a new set of functions. Due to Strange's warding spell, no one but himself can remove the Eye without being repelled by burning heat.
    • Astral Plane Habitation: It accompanies Doctor Strange's astral form and is one of the few mystical items usable in either state (albeit at a less powerful state).
    • Time Manipulation (formerly) - Using the Eye of Agamotto, Strange could control the flow of time or be it on a small or massive scale, notably to turn back something to a previous state, accelerating its time in order to apply changes that have not happened yet, or to lock in a time loop, with time resetting over and over until he stops its effect. He lost this power when the Time Stone was given to Thanos and then destroyed.
    • Environmental Replay: The Eye can utilise elemental forces located in the vicinity to replay past events that happened in said space.
3AC8F167-2B13-486D-8A86-805087064556
  • Cauldron of the Cosmos: The Cauldron of the Cosmos is an ancient mystical artefact owned by the Masters of the Mystic Arts, who kept it on the ground floor of the New York Sanctum.
    • Cosmic Awareness - Through the Cauldron of the Cosmos, Stephen Strange is able to peer into the eyes of the Universe enabling him to monitor all manner of threats.

Threat Level[]

At least country if not multi-continent plus level with Magic - fought Thanos who was empowered by five infinity stones and managed to counter all of his attacks including a small black hole.

Possibly higher. Strange's memory erase spell was capable of erasing Peter Parker from the collective unity of humanity's minds and prior before completing it inadvertently ripped holes in the dimensional barriers separating the infinite universes of the Multiverse from his own.

Weaknesses[]

Rather arrogant and believes himself to be infallible, even without magic.

If Strange is distracted while casting a spell, it may not be executed with the desired effect or be completely nullified.

The nerve damage in Strange's hands makes it all but impossible to use them properly, suffering immense pain when punching enemies and can make it difficult to cast some more complicated spells.

Doctor Strange depends on spoken incantations, mystical gesturing similar to tutting, and his arcane artefacts in his duties. If gagged or bound, he will be unable to access Eldritch magic.

Stephen, despite all his spells and magical training, is only human and therefore vulnerable like the rest of his species. Hence, he can be overpowered by physical force, incapacitating gas, and can be killed by poison, decapitation, loss of blood, old age, et cetera. He also must eat, sleep, and drink.

Like most beings, he is vulnerable to and can be affected by magic. He cannot penetrate wards through teleportation or portals unless cast by himself but is unaffected by the Masters of the Mystic Arts wards, his shields can be broken by sufficient magical force, and a stronger sorcerer/sorceress would be able to overpower and kill him.

Sand from the land of Nisanti is able to prevent him from channeling universal or dimensional energies rendering him near powerless. This is inclusive of handcuffs with a Nisanti sand chamber or polycarbonate glass cages derived from the same sand.

Trivia[]

  • As a result of his confrontation with Dormammu in the Dark Dimension and the 14 million alternate timelines in which he lived through and was blipped in, Strange has officially died more times than any other character in the Marvel Cinematic Universe.
