Steven Grant Roger was an American soldier who fought during World War II and was selected by Doctor Abraham Erskine to be part of Project Rebirth and become a Super-Soldier. However, the project was nearly sabotaged by HYDRA until his fiancée Peggy Carter took over and became Sister Britain. The two lovers fought together against HYDRA, but became separate when Steve fell off a train and fell into the hands of HYDRA. For decades since the end of the war, Steve was declared dead by his friends, but that was proven to be false since the man had become the Winter Soldier. Eventually, his lover Peggy would eventually free Steve from HYDRA influence with the help of Wanda Maximoff and became the top enforcer for Illuminati.
