Captain America arrives in San Francisco

In 2018, the Quantum Virus had been spreading across the United States of America, turning those infected into zombies. Steve Rogers, Natasha Romanoff, and Sam Wilson were called in by Colonel Rhodes and Nadia Van Dyne at the New Avengers Facility to respond to this outbreak. Despite Thaddeus' protests in wanting to arrest the Secret Avengers for violating the Sokovia Accords, Steve told him that this outbreak will get worst and many lives will be loss if the Avengers don't take action to deal with this virus.

With the Sokovia Accords no longer active, the Avengers had been rallying as many allies and survivors to help in order to find a way to rid this virus. While the rest of the newest members were split into teams and had been doing everything they could to keep many people from being infected and anniliating hordes of zombies, Steve Rogers and Natasha Romanoff recruited Clint Barton, who had just sent his family to Pleasant Hill, to help with this outbreak. That was when the three were joined by Tony Stark, who apologized for his previous mistakes and told them that they were right about the Accords and that it really caused serious problems. Steve forgave Tony when the two shook hands and went on to go on their mission.

Not that both sides had put their differences aside to respond to the national health emergency, Steve Rogers and his team were then joined by King T'Challa Udaku of Wakanda, who volunteered to help while his country, with the aid of the Masters of the Mystic Arts, would offer sanctuary to those escaping the zombies. While onboard the Quinjet, Steve tried to contact Sam, but received no response. Believing that Sam might've fallen to the zombie horde, Steve took a moment to mourn him and swore to do whatever it takes to make sure that this virus is purged from Earth.

Upon arriving at San Francisco to try and contain the virus, Steve and his team arrive on the Golden Gate Bridge where they immediately meet by a horde of zombies. Before preparing to lead the charge, Steve was suddenly bitten by a shrunken zombified Hank Pym. However, Steve managed to gain the upperhand by using his shield to decapitate the zombified Pym. Instantly, Steve continued to fight off the zombies, but began to succumb to the virus due to being bitten and transformed into a zombie, while the rest of his teammates were infected also.

Later, Steve Rogers, now a zombie, had snuck onboard the train in the Grand Central Terminal that was carrying the surviving members of the Avengers' allies. Steve ambushed Sharon Carter in the back train car and attacked her, causing her to become infected. That was when he was confronted by Bucky Barnes, who came to Carter's defense, seconds too late.

After he finished with Sharon, who was slowly transforming into a zombie, Steve rose where he stared directly at his old childhood friend Bucky Barnes. Unable to recognize his best friend due to his zombie nature, Steve let out a growling roar and began to attack him with his shield, but Bucky had managed to get the upper hand. When Steve threw the shield at Barnes, Bucky threw the shield back directly at Rogers' midsection, slicing him in half, and then fell backwards onto the track.
