This unnamed witch, also known as Vertigo, is a warrior witch with ties to Agatha Harkness. She was one of the daughters of the witches of Harkness's coven, created through magic. After Harkness massacred her coven, this witch gathered with the other daughters of the dead witches and formed the Salem's Seven, a coven of witches dedicated to revenge against Harkness by any means possible, she became known as Vertigo.
Each of the Salem's Seven witches sought to perfect their Witchcraft as much as possible, eventually learning to manipulate and transform themselves into animals. Vertigo chose to control and transform into cicadas.
Vertigo and her coven pursued Agatha Harkness over the centuries, having several confrontations but always being defeated, With each defeat, the Salem's Seven became more and more determined and ruthless. At one point, Vertigo encountered with Rio Vidal, Harkness's ex-girlfriend, convincing Vidal to ally herself with them.
In late 2026, Vidal informed them of Harkness's current whereabouts and that after her confrontation with the Scarlet Witch, she was without any powers. Vertigo and her coven went to Westview and arrived at Harkness' house, and discovered that Harkness intended to undergo the Trials on the Witches' Road to regain her powers, with this, they attack Billy Kaplan and manage to enter through the portal opened by Harkness.
Due to having entered through an already opened portal, Vertigo and her coven were not subjected to the Trials, but they could invade and sabotage the Trials of the witches of Harkness' coven, Vidal secretly helped them while pretending to be on Harkness' side.
At the end of the Trials, Vertigo confronts Harkness and Vidal with her powers, but is eventually outmatched. Harkness absorbs nearly all of Vertigo's magic, rendering her powerless and temporarily defeating her, She was teleported away by Nicholas Scratch. When Lilith resurfaced in modern times, she sought allies to take Earth for herself and defeat the newly formed Midnight Sons. Lilith sought out Vertigo, and offered her an alliance: Lilith would speed up the return of Vertigo's magic and Vertigo would help her. In exchange, she would have the chance to take revenge on Agatha. Vertigo, however, would only accept if her coven was resurrected afterwards, and Lilith promised to resurrect them at the end of the battle. With her powers restored, Vertigo was among Lilith's army that was directly confronted by the heroes. In the end, Vertigo and several Lilin, Lilith's offspring, were killed in an attack by Jennifer Kale.
Due to her actions in life, Vertigo, like the rest of her coven, had her soul sent to the Witches' Underworld. There, she was approached by Lore, a necromantic and evil variant of the Scarlet Witch, who offered her a chance to get revenge on Wanda and Agatha and return to the world of the living, which Vertigo accepted. Therefore, when the Scarlet Witch came to the Witches' Road accompanied by Agatha Harkness and her mother Iryna Maximoff, the Salem's Seven tried to block their path along with Lore, but were eventually defeated. Despite this, Lore used her necromancy to resurrect the Salem's Seven, allowing them to return to Earth.
Personality[]
Vertigo is characterized as cold and dark, hiding her hatred and burning thirst for revenge against Harkness behind a calm facade. Vertigo is also known for her persistence, where even after being defeated by Harkness multiple times, she never gave up on her revenge, and encouraged her coven to do the same.
Overtime, Vertigo's desire for revenge against Harkness was magnified to the level of insanity, losing the ability to think clearly, where Vertigo was obsessed with having her revenge by any means necessary. Vertigo refused to listen to Vidal's pleas, how Harkness was now free of its corruption, violently attacking Harkness and attempting to kill her multiple times. Despite her coldness and strictness, Vertigo genuinely cares for her sisters, upon witnessing them die in front of her, Vertigo had an emotional breakdown and cried loudly, and when seeing her sister Diarus dying in front of her affected her even more, and her grief further intensified her desire for revenge, driving her into a state of blind rage.
In the past, Vertigo was once sweet and kind, an enthusiastic and cheerful witch who lived in harmony in her mother's coven, having become who she is today due to the trauma of Agatha Harkness, her foster sister, betraying the coven and killing all the witches, including Vertigo's mother.
